Moscow has announced that it will open an escape corridor to Russia every day from Friday. Escape routes in other directions are being negotiated with the Ukrainian side on a case-by-case basis.The Russian government wants to allow civilians from contested areas of Ukraine to travel to Russia. 

"We officially announce that from now on humanitarian corridors for the Russian Federation will be opened unilaterally, without coordination, every day from 10:00 a.m. (8:00 a.m. CET)," the Moscow Defense Ministry said.

Escape routes "in other directions" would be negotiated with the Ukrainian side on a case-by-case basis. "We guarantee full security in the areas controlled by the Russian armed forces," the statement said.Moscow called on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the United Nations to "work locally with the Ukrainian authorities to inform the population about this initiative".
