His thinly-veiled remark appeared to be directed toward billionaire Elon Musk, who is close to incoming US President Donald Trump. Biden claimed that power with the rich leads to abuse, if left unchecked. Remember, Musk has been announced as co-chair of Department of Government Efficiency by Trump, which will effectively keep a check on US government's spending. Biden also slammed Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg, who recently announced Facebook was doing away with its fact-checking program. The President said, "The truth is smothered by lies." The pardons, which Biden stressed did not denote wrongdoing, also extended to police officers who testified before the panel.

Trump warmed up for his second inauguration at a Sunday victory rally in Washington, DC, that culminated in a spectacle that would have astounded generations of his starchy collared predecessors, showing off his lock-kneed, jerky dad dance with the Village People and their late 1970s hit “YMCA” — his political anthem.
