Whatever happened to "Mr Umbrage" Ng Yat Chung?

After making a fool of himself at a press conference in 2021, little has been heard of ex-SPH Chief Executive, Ng Yat Chung. It is amazing how the incompetent are able to rise to such high positions with so little substance.

The whole issue here is that Mr Arrogant aka Umbrage Ng showed through his response that he didn't even understand the question asked by the journalist. How can the then CEO of SPH be less intelligent than one of reporters at the press conference? See what happens when cronyism is present in an organisation.

There is a risk-averse culture in the SAF owing to the scrutiny that decisions are under in a rigid hierarchical system, while there is more of a risk management culture in the private sector. This makes it imperative for leaders to apply and adapt the unique skills they learnt in the army into a different environment. Senior military officers may know how to manage large resources and deploy budgets. However, they do not have the same grasp of the profit motive.

Ng Yat Chung joined the board of NOL as an Executive Director in 2011 and was appointed Group President and CEO thereafter. Under his watch, Temasek tendered its NOL shares to CMA. Ng blamed NOL's lack of scale as the main reason for its sale. He was criticised for failing to improve the company's performance during his time as CEO. On 19 May 2017, it was reported that CMA managed to turn NOL around, posting a $26 million net profit for the first quarter of 2017. Following the sale, Ng stayed on as Special Advisor from June 2016 to May 2017; cronyism was at play here for sure. What was his contribution as advisor? To point out his past mistakes and tell CMA what not to do?

Yes, true indeed. Their job is quite different but both were parachuted into high level without the ability. SM Lee’s Team of people are like BMW cars with Honda engine.
