Why GIC Chairman pledged loyalty was totally ignored by President Trump and yet, he imposed 10% tariffs?

Pledging loyalty...

""We have stayed invested in the US through thick and thin, because of its vital role in the world economy. And we continue to have faith in the US economy's vibrance, dynamism, and sheer resilience."

SM Lee, GIC Chairman (14 Nov 2024)

In an interview with the Time magazine published on Tuesday, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong repeated earlier warnings that a failure by the US Congress to ratify the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) would diminish Washington’s standing among Asian trade partners.

How can anybody believe in U.S. anymore, asks Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong

"We must have a stand, our own position, and we stick to that position whomever we are talking to, whichever country or capital you are in," he said.

"When you make a speech, the gist of the message has to be the same. That's what I try to do, and that's what I tell the leaders I'm speaking to whether I'm in Washington, Hangzhou, Tokyo, Europe or Moscow. My essential message is the same."

It just shows that US can sacrifice anyone. Don't expect US to take care of anyone. US don't value loyalty.

Yes agreed

There isn't any good reason for Singapore Govt appointed fund manager, GIC Chairman having to pledge loyalty for putting our hard earned CPF savings in US?

Very strange for SM Lee to do that openly (and before Wall Street crash)..

Especially, GIC is a large investor.
