TS does not know SG well - Since 1965, SG set the fixed 2 Public holidays each year that is major festive or importance to each major 4 ethnic groups

2 CNY
1 Hari Raya
1 Hari Haji
1 Vesak day
1 Deevapali
1 Good Friday
1 X'mas Day.

Rest are 1 Labour day, 1 NDP, 1 New Year

So why is TS comparing SG with China ?

Sinkiepoor is 70% Chinese

Our cultural roots is from ancient China

China is keeping its cultural roots by having Dragon Boat Festival as holidays

Why shouldn't we in Sinkiepoor?

Other important festivals like qingming and mid autumn will soon be forgotten but continue to be celebrated by kimchee, sushi and pho

Why do you need holidays to remember your cultural Roots ?

Are you suggesting you only practice, remember and cherish those traditions and values it carries when there are holidays ?

Yes, that's what IAM saying

We respect the culture when we make a holiday out for its activities, so we do not fall into ambiguity and over time, cease to practice these traditions and culture

We will make our ancestors very displeased with us and Bad Karma will befall on us and our descendants

Very soon, everyone will cast their ashes in a sea burial

Because graveyards has become a rarity, many cremate, so no tombstone to sweep anymore

Because no Qingming holiday

There's a garden to scatter one's ashes. No need to scatter into the sea.

Errrr...FYI, we local Chinese still observe not just 清明, but also other annual events from 端午节, 中秋节 to 中元节 - regardless any "ambiguity" or otherwise.

This up to individual atittude and upbringing whether or not they continue to respect those practice and tradition....

So whom are you to suggest  "ancestors very displeased" when the SGreans Chinese aren't crazy pple demanding the Gov to gazette those festive seasons as public holidays ?

Well, majority don't and this got nothing to do with upbringing, as if your upbringing is so pristine, c'mon

If the country does not recognize the culture by ignoring it, then the consequent reaction of the population will in time fade this culture into oblivion

Imagine if CNY is abolished because we follow the Gregorian NY, what would be the extent of its cultural erosion, i shudder to consider

Our ancestors will be very displeased and there will be bad Karma all round for the country as we are afterall 70% Chinese in demographics
