TOC's website and social media accounts had already been deactivated since Sep 16, after authorities suspended its licence for failing to submit the required information despite "multiple reminders and extensions".

IMDA then gave the alternative news provider a final deadline of Sep 28 to provide the information to comply with the Broadcasting Act.

"As at Oct 14, 2021, TOC has still not submitted the required information. TOC has also publicly stated that it will not be providing the required information," said IMDA on Friday.

"TOC’s clear and persistent refusal to be transparent and to provide the necessary information to bring it into full compliance with the Broadcasting Act and the Broadcasting (Class Licence) Notification compels IMDA to proceed with the cancellation of TOC’s class licence with immediate effect."

Why should TOC declare where the donations come from.  It is designed to clip the wings of TOC.  If the crowd  Big Grin funding is revealed, then many will not dare to donate to this cause......

All these measures cause fear as authoritarian govts often use such name lists to go after citizens.

TOC will probably reappear as a new website registered and hosted overseas. Even harder to regulate. Ban it and another one will pop up.

No point doing that IMDA can just block...since its hosted overseas it can easily be classified as foreign interference and Minister can just order it blocked.

Last time folks in China used to VPN (climbed over the wall in chinese) to other countries to see alternate views on China..

Next time, Singaporean will have to do the same..

Yes, it's totally ridiculous to disclose funding source as this may lead to possible reprisals by the govt. The only thing that matters is whether the essays are factual or not. If not factual, they can ask the editor to remove the article.
