They should put up a barrier on the right side of the washing bay as shown in the photo or maybe lengthen the wall further to the right.

But how she broke BOTH ankles? Got osteoporosis? Kind of difficult to walk into that area too. One possibility is that she walks from behind the wall and suddenly make a turn into the washing bay for whatever reason. If she is approaching it from right or front of the photo, no way she will walk into it and break her ankles.
