Why should the riot police be called at the first sign of protest?
#1

Just because some workers complained about the food and the treatment and immediately the riot police is called. This is very humiliating for the workers as they feel that the employers / MOM is trying to suppress their freedom of speech by force even without first trying to reach an amicable solution first. Where's the workers' right? Is this how we should treat workers?

Just imagine you have an argument with your boss and the next thing you know the police is called to escort you out of the company.

This also sends a wrong signal to other countries as it gives the impression that we resort to the use of force on every disagreement.

In my opinion, calling the riot police at the first sign of a disagreement is tantamount to a threat. It's equivalent to telling the workers, if you don't behave then the police will make you behave. It's not the right approach that should be taken as the first sign of a disagreement. Moreover, MOM has acknowledged that they have failed in providing proper care for the workers.

Agree. I thought the whole FW fiasco has been settled by MOM already last year, but this kind of treatment of FW still persists. Even resorting to riot police. Really malu for SG.

Instead of calling the police (ang chia), they should call a team of medical staff to vaccinate the whole lot of FWs who had not taken the first dose of covid vaccinations.....

I suspect the workers have complained to the camp boss or dorm management many times about hygiene of food and health matters but nothing done. On that day may be the workers lost patience already and insisted they see the boss to settle the the issues they have brought up so many times and somehow temper flies. So the Dorm management called the police and said they had a riot in Tukang dorm. So SPF quickly rush the riot police and armoured cars there. Tanks were probably put on standby to roll in as well. That's how it happened I guess........ Big Grin

Normally, the workers will not gather in big group if their feedbacks have been taken seriously.
They must have feedback for weeks or months but no action taken to resolve the issues.
They have no choice but to gather in force to protest.

On food and infected workers, the workers would have feedback to their supervisors in SemCorp Marine.
That is why Semcorp Marine has to apologise because the management did not work on their feedback.

Food and infected workers are under the care of Semcorp Marine, not the dorm management.
Because dorm management did not apologise, only Semcorp Marine apologised.

Semcorp Marine CEO has to step down because he cannot even take care of workers, how can he grow the company and profit ?

Semcorp Marine needs new CEO for the new merged entity.

I think I can conclude pretty much that SembCorp Marine senior management all have very pretty and sexy secretaries and man-hunks for the female management

a small fire not control at the start can turn into a major fire incident.
should investigate who is the man behind the instigation.
food is a difficult to please all. some like it hot some like it cold.
one way industrial estate do is to allow many stall holders to provide.
catering + 1-2 stall may help reduce problem. those like save money
eat cater. no like buy from stall. stall will know how to adjust to taste.
certainly will cost more.

By and large, food prepared in large quantities do not usually taste nice, but food sold by hawker stalls are more plateable and are hot/warm. Therefore food prepared by  stall owners will have a bigger crowd ..... Laughing

In Singapore, bosses just have to say sorry it's an oversight and all will be forgiven, whereas when workers made mistakes it is totally unacceptable.
