at least you had AWS, in Australia there is no year end bonuses, if the company is doing well, the boss will write a cheque of 1k or 2k for you to buy Xmas present.

Long time ago, the salary was paid weekly.
After they converted the salary from weekly to month salary.
It was found the worker got lesser pay. So it was then compensated as AWS as your 13mth salary.
