Pritam Singh’s statement
Shortly after sentencing, Mr Singh posted a media statement on his Facebook page, laying out his “side of the story,” the arguments that his lawyers, Andre Jumabhoy & Aristotle Eng, made to Court. His statement maybe found in full in English & Mandarin here. Among facts laid out by Mr Singh’s legal team, they wrote that WP chief had emphatically rejected pleas from former party cadres Loh Pei Ying and Yudhishthra Nathan, “to cover up Raeesah’s lie with another one.” “Mr Singh never hid the fact, it was Ms Khan’s duty to take responsibility & ownership of the issue & that was her decision to continue to lie, a fact that he made clear to Ms Khan in contemporaneous WhatsApp message on 23 Nov 2021, & from which she did not demur,” lawyers added.
Mr Singh wrote toward the end of his statement, “In the test of who is telling the truth, actions speak louder than words.” In answer to questions from the media, especially about the upcoming General Election, Mr Singh said that he will let the public decide and that he intends to contest in the election. “We’ll see what happens… you can ask me again on Polling Day.”

SINGAPORE: The National University Hospital (NUH) will be replacing half of its 1,200 beds, with 100 new ones added by 2033. By 2038, the remaining older beds will also be replaced, and another 200 will be added, bringing the total to 1,500. According to The New Paper, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung shared these updates on Feb 22 during NUH’s 40th-anniversary event at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, attended by 4,000 guests.

Mr Ong said upgraded NUH campus would be “much more user-friendly,” with shorter distances between key facilities and simpler-to-find services. Campus will also have more greenery, including plants & trees, while reducing carbon emissions. He said this upgrade—expected to take 10 years to complete—would significantly improve healthcare infrastructure in western Singapore.
Mr Ong said NUH is likely to undergo three major transformations: the population will age, patients will have more complex conditions, medical technology will advance rapidly, and healthcare costs will rise, leading to tighter resources. One is a physical upgrade; the hospital is 40 to 50 years old. Minister noted current campus layout is far from ideal, & facilities are ageing. Since NUH will continue operating during redevelopment, new wards must be built first to relocate existing ones before redeveloping their current sites, he added.

Technology will also play a larger role in medical care.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) will soon help medical teams diagnose patients, prescribe care pathways, analyse scans, and highlight anomalies. It will also generate medical records by listening to doctor-patient conversations. Sensors and algorithms will track patient movements to ensure safety. Robotic surgery could also become more affordable with lower equipment costs, better efficiency, and consolidation of case volume.
There'll also be a shift towards community-based healthcare.
Mr Ong said acute and community hospitals, family doctors, nursing homes, hospices, and other care providers will work more closely to support patient recovery, rehabilitation, and smoother transitions. NUH will expand its role in active ageing centres & provide clinical, preventive care through its health posts in the community.
Partnerships may also extend to fitness coaches, coffee shops, and hawker centres to promote healthier lifestyles. He said, “In other words, I believe in the next 10 years, there will be a decisive shift away from hospitals to the community in giving care.”

Feb 26 (Reuters) - S'pore's law & home affairs minister and its manpower minister have filed defamation lawsuits against Bloomberg News and one of its reporters, according to a schedule of court hearings.
Home Affairs & Law Minister K Shanmugam and Manpower Minister Tan See Leng had threatened legal action in Dec, saying at the time a Bloomberg report on S'pore real estate that mentioned them by name was libellous.
SG govt ordered Bloomberg in Dec to issue a "correction direction" on report, under country's Protection from Online Falsehoods Manipulation Act. The media company complied and updated the original story with a notice saying the correction direction had been published "under threat of sanction" and it stood by its reporting.
Senior figures in ruling People's Action Party, including former Prime Ministers Lee Kuan Yew and Lee Hsien Loong, have filed successful defamation lawsuits against media & political opponents. Shanmugam and Tan are represented by lawyer Davinder Singh, a former ruling party parliamentarian who has represented former premiers in defamation suits.
Singh did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.
