It's the same for belts, wallets. Self -destruct after a few years. I had to throw mine away. Wasted.

You hv to seal up in plastic to preserve it. Even for belt.

As I am a weekend warrior who plays football 2-3 times a year, I found that my expensive Adidas boots underwent an ageing deterioration known as hydrolysis when I took them out of the shoe cabinet for a game last year. This is the chemical breakdown of the PU polymer and the resulting crumbling of the PU sole by the attack of water occurring even when the boots were not used. This process is worse in SG's warmth and high humidity. Even branded sports footwear will crack and crumble if stored.

Need to use airtight container.

Next best option is to pack and put in the fridge.

Even authentic football jerseys costing $115 - $190 have ironed-on decals that peel off or disintegrate after about 3 years when hand washed. This is why more consumers are spending $15 - $20 on counterfeit jerseys to lessen the pain.

Just glue back using shoe glue

Nike or ew balance of leave in cabinet unused for too long also become like this

Singapore is warm and humid. Hydrolysis will definitely set in for shoes. One way is to seal them up in some airtight container.

Additional Note: Maybe can try this

Must wear the shoes every once in a while else it will crumble. My Caterpillar shoes also crumble after I stored them for a while without wearing them (I was mainly overseas then).

If really must store them without wearing (such as collectibles), maybe can try sealing them up like in the video I posted in my previous post.
