Long Island to be reclaimed off East Coast could add 800ha of land and Singapore’s 18th reservoir
SINGAPORE – Three tracts of land could be reclaimed off East Coast Park in the coming decades, creating about 800ha of land for new homes and other amenities, as well as a new reservoir.
Collectively called the Long Island, these land tracts are Singapore’s response to the threat of rising sea levels and inland flooding in the East Coast area. Land in the area is largely lower than 5m above the mean sea level, the extent that sea levels are projected to rise to by the end of this century if extreme high tides coincide with storm surges.

That is already part of the "East Coast Plan"
Singapore is a nation that never stop building infrastructure..
Officials had in the last few years hinting further reclamation with extensive coastal protection involving mix use of dikes, tidal barrier systems and enhanced reclamation to prepare for climate change and against sea-level rise. Now we finally see the intend being turn into plan and action.

More so as the the east side has several key facilities like Changi airport, residential properties, Changi naval base and Eastern PUB Newater plant.
So no choice loh
To fund all these ... I guess GST will be 13% at least .... have fun younger generation

Me thinks the current coastal sandy beach likely will be gone as sea waves will be blocked by the "Long Island", and replaced by fresh water reservoir along the entire existing EC Park.
The future of the popular East Coast sandy beach maybe in doubt.

With seas breeze to enjoy but hotter during the dry months
Been waiting for this news. So the decision is reservoir? My preference too. Wonder how much water can it supply?

Better than $ goes to somebody pockets. Ex..1mdb..
Sg must keep developing and redevloping lah. Like the roadside lamps, just changed to new ones not too long ago, dugged out and replaced with new ones again
Nothing new, just chopping down of more trees for land reclamation.
One thing must do is to reclaim the north and join with jb. Ppl just walk across no need rts and hsr, no jam
No more east coast Liao lah. Better store up all the old pictures and current pictures and into beyond 2032 ....
The question is where is sg going to get all the soil and sand to base. Where are the targeted mountains to bring down. Or that is why all the plastics wastes from us and Europe are shipped and driven into Asia.

Up to 60,000 new homes will likely be built on the upcoming “Long Island” reclaimed site at East Coast Park’s shoreline, property analysts told CNA.
So all those sea-view condoms along East Coast Park will be devalued?
East coast kena block by these hdb liao

Probably. They will still have a view of the reservoir instead of the sea which may be better. East Coast Park will still exist.
Destroying the nature no wonder so many rooster running around the estate soon others animals will be seen as well.
very good decision to include reservoir in the building. living etc. the property development will help recover part of cost. increased usable land for singapore. if do selective enbloc to renew hdb will be helpful to recycle the old concrete to for the filling of the island.
if give enough notice (years ahead) and a variable lease terms it will reduce resistant. most will welcome enbloc.
but then it will hit old retired hard. so work in giving them even better units with renovation and adjustment to their needs will also reduced resistance. while more hdb is build if old units are not removed singapore will face over supply. stop build is not a solution as who do not want to at least have once a new house as home.
