Worth 5.1 billion,  yet  Comfort Delgro's share price is stagnant. Not moving at all.

What a joke!

Been trending up from $1 since mid-2023. Now around $1.4. I just checked its chart.
Focusing on this latest 5.1 billion news not trends.
By and large such mammoth headlines should move the stock up immediately....even by  a few pennies.
IN-FLIGHT caterer and ground handler Sats : S58 -0.72% on Tuesday (Dec 5) said it remains on track to restore profitability, a week after it filed its notice of three consecutive years of losses.

Rail businesses in western countries ain't that easy, lots of problems with regulatory bodies, change in tax policies, unions etc.

In terms of overseas rail, Comfort to date has only run a very simple New Zealand MRT and the fact they hardly mention much about it in their disclosures and press releases indicates this business even if not loss making is at best earning only paltry returns.

Their UK partner Go-Ahead Group on the other hand has extensive experience running European railways. The problem is their track record is very patchy with lots of operational, regulatory and governance issues. Some of their rail contracts have never been profitable since commencement.

Although the contract value is high, I doubt they will break even in the short term and at best might make a few percentage point margin over the medium to longer term.

Transport biz are not for quick get rich, but rather stable cashflow. Good days bad days, u still need to take metro right.

It's not that straight forward. Many public transport contracts are not even tied to fare and ridership revenue in the first place, so stability in demand has no bearing on operational cashflow.

From Go Ahead's past experience, the main problems seem to be manpower, dealing with problematic local authorities, unions, interpretation of SLAs, inconsistencies in public policies especially when there is a change in government.

All these are factor into the bid u put in mah. Go Ahead probably undersize the risk loh.
