Close to half of Singapore residents say they will never achieve financial freedom: Poll
The index findings were gathered through an online survey of 3,000 Singaporeans and permanent residents aged 18 to 65 from April to June in 2024.
SINGAPORE - More than two in five people in Singapore believe they will never be able to achieve financial freedom based on their current trajectory, a poll has found.
Of the 3,000 people polled, 29% said they will be able to achieve financial freedom, 27% said they have already attained it, while 44% said they will never be able to do so. The top 3-reasons cite for not being able to financially free are: insufficient income, unforeseen personal or health circumstances, and job insecurity.
The findings were part of composite insurer Singlife’s 2nd financial freedom index. The index findings were gathered through an online survey of 3,000 Singaporeans and permanent residents aged 18 to 65 from April to June in 2024. In 2024, respondents scored 58 out of 100 in the index. This is slightly down from the score of 60 in 2023.

SINGAPORE: Among familiar faces during open training session@Kallang Football Hub on Monday (Sep 2), was a figure local football fans have been hoping to see for quite some time. Invited by Football Association of S'pore (FAS) for a “familiarisation stint” with men’s national football team was Cardiff City footballer Perry Ng.
Under FIFA rules, Ng is eligible to play for Singapore via his late paternal grandfather James, who was born here, but later moved to Liverpool.
However, under Singapore citizenship rules, one can only qualify for a passport by descent if at least one parent was born in the country or is a citizen by registration.
“Ever since my grandfather passed away about 12 years ago, it’s always been a dream of mine to come here, represent him, represent my family that are still here, and to make them proud. My family here have never seen me play before, so to walk out to the National Stadium with them there will be a dream come true,” said Ng.
“I’m so excited for it to happen. And, yeah, this is the start.”
