Leonardo iz ang mo name. The boy @ 2:26min looks like him. Veddrique could be Eurasian but beri little infor available online abt his background. Think his hand reaction time on pressing the button was faster dan his competitor's bcos the latter actually looked faster.

Leonardo Veddrique did Asians proud with his superlative performance in speed climbing. The Indonesian speed demon is worth his weight in gold, having won in the men's final by a split second at the wire.
Beng a lightweight is surely advantageous when partaking in the 15-metre vertical sprint. Having strong and fast muscle fibers of the arms and legs is another added advantage. That's where Asians, by virtue of their slighter build and lighter body weight, have a leg up on the larger and taller Westerners.
Speed climbing is one of the sports ideally suited to Olympians from the Asian continent. They should be able to capitalize on their smaller physique and dexterous manoeuvre to good effect, and eventually morph from being "weightless" into weighty figures in the sporting world.

Knn, nobody can fight Indo or Malaysia lah. How many trees and cliffs the rest of the world climb since young??!? Indo and Malaysia has natural setting for such lah...

Depends lah. Leonardo is Eurasian. His competitor at the Olympics who actually bested his time and broke the WR iz a taller ang mo from the US. Having longer limbs is an advantage, theoretically.

The US holder of a world record with long arms looked better on paper, but he was narrowly edged out by Leonardo in a photo finish. Leonardo upset the form book and won by a razor-thin margin. That was a tight and super-quick contest; in the blink of an eye, it was over. The result could have gone the other way round. There's little separating the two contestants who are extremely speedy climbers with good hand-leg co-ordination. What had tipped the balance in Leonardo's favor?
You're probably right. The American came within a hair's breadth of winning the race, but in the final push to the finishing line Leonardo, with his arm at full stretch, pipped the American to the finish button by the smallest amount of time. For Leonardo, it was a sweet, albeit razor-thin, victory which could have gone either way.

There may be aboriginal-like peoples still in Indonesia and in East and West M'sia who are excellent climbers and spend a lot of their lives in trees, mountains and cliffs. But I wouldn't bet on them giving the trained city dwellers a run for their money. Some of them may be pretty good at climbing trees and scaling steep cliffs, but comparing them to the Olympic speed climbers is stretching it.
For one thing, the native climbers are inexperienced and untrained in the technique of speed climbing. For another, the city climbers have their own climbing walls that are specially designed to be climbed at speed and that are used to develop the skills needed. Unless the native Indonesians and M'sians receive training in speed climbing, they don't stand a chance against the Olympic climbers. Practice makes perfect. So they should keep practising till they become competent in the sport which is enjoying a surge in popularity.
