Let us not forget that S'pore’s 4-year participation in the Malaysian Super League was unceremoniously terminated by the Football Association of Malaysia in 2015. It was the second time in 2 decades that Singapore was kicked out by our neighbours.
Back in 1994, disagreement over the apportioning of match attendance revenue and suspicions of match-fixing, after the Lions won the Malaysian League and Cup double, did not sit too well with the state teams across the Causeway.
In 2015, the FAM claimed that the substantial cost of travelling to S'pore was a burden on Malaysian teams. It was also rumoured that FAM wanted to take over the Lions XII's TV rights, which the FAS was unwilling to accede to.

Even if Malaysia allows S'pore back into their competition, the crucial question is how the FAS plans to significantly increase fan interest and attendance so that home games can be played at the 55,000 capacity National Stadium. As the governing body for football, the FAS needs to introduce innovative ideas and a comprehensive plan to engage fans on a long-term basis, in order to revive local soccer.

"Lions won the Malaysian League and Cup double,"
Ya la, a League that cannot accept winner is not worthy to join. Only invite nothing but troubles.
How can our big neighbour own League lose out to a tiny red dot? That's the fundamental reason why Malaysia Cup is not suitable for Singapore.
Only those fans lived through it will understand. Singapore and Malaysia can only be good neighbours.
But not Partnership.
Count our blessings for what we have now, peaceful and mutual respect for each other.
Never expect too much...
Winning in Malaysia is never good for Singapore and Singaporean. Commonsense, after all, we are two different country and citizens.

Back in 2015, the Johor Crown Prince commented after S'pore's Lions XII's historic Malaysian FA Cup 3-1 victory over favourites Kelantan and acknowledged the biased refereeing usually perpetrated against us: "Congratulation Lions XII. Not only for qualified to the FA Cup final, but the Singaporean side were also perceived as taking on the best team in Malaysia, Kelantan, who were the final Malaysian team in the tournament. The match tonight shows that Lions XII not only played against the best Malaysian Football team with the support of 4 foreign players, but also against the referee and the system, which is the FAM."

From the Suzuki Cup, it changed and became known as the AFF cup and now it is called the ASEAN Championship.

S'pore struggled against minnows Cambodia and Timor Leste in our opening games, so qualifying for the next stage is going to be an uphill task.

I don think Sg struggled against Timor Leste..
Msia struggled to get a result against them...
2 wins out of 2 put us in a good place to qualify out of the group...Sg should go all the way to the Finals and lose...

Two vastly superior opponents in Thailand and Malaysia lay in wait for the Lions. It won't end well for S'pore at the ASEAN Championship.

It didn't went well with Sg during the last few editions of this tournament but this time it might be a little different...a new coach and a current Sg top scorer of the tournament, 2 wins in a row...another win against msia or thailand might just be enough to show that we have turned the corner

I was at the National Stadium for that game and was pissed to see so many Caucasian expats cheering for each goal scored by South Korea.

What do you expect them to do? To curse and swear for every goal the sg goalie lets in?

It’s definitely an exciting time for Singapore football! I remember attending a match last year, and it was such an electric atmosphere. I had a last-minute change in plans and was scrambling for tickets.
