I've no issue with your kind of people looking down on me. I laugh at them and their puny minds.

I agree with the leaders of SGrean Malay community.

Do they want those 2 "activist" to create unnecessary tension in SG over an issue the World itself cannot solve ?

Listen to the exchange again before putting the politics of religion into Meet-the-People Session.

Everton here says our government supports the zionist regime in their genocide against Palestine. Maybe he knows something you don't.

Btw, the 2 state solution is not the answer. A one state solution where Arabs and Jews are equal should be the way forward.

Common sense.

Singapore doesn't has any benefit to suppprt isrealis overkill in GAZA.

That contradicting our stance with UN Charter;

Article 32

The High Contracting Parties specifically agree that each of them is prohibited from taking any measure of such a character as to cause the physical suffering or extermination of protected persons in their hands. This prohibition applies not only to murder, torture, corporal punishment, mutilation and medical or scientific experiments not necessitated by the medical treatment of a protected person but also to any other measures of brutality whether applied by civilian or military agents.

I base on facts, not hearsay.
It is in the interests of Singapore to side with international law within UN Charter.
A critical stance for small nation to safeguard it's sovereignty.

However being a small nation, it is not in our interest to go against a Superpower or bigger nation directly in Geopolitical conflicts.
We don't have the means to change bigger country Geopolitical determination.

Whether it is Israel or Russia, Singapore can only work on her own principle stance for self interest. That's how we survive over 60 years, through several Geopolitical challenges.

There are no permanent enemies or friends in foreign diplomacy.
Bending too much to either side based on individual ideology is naive.
That's not how Singapore conduct her foreign affairs.

2 or 1 states, peace and prosperity for the Palestinian and Israelis, are the wish of Singapore.
This conflicts has being going on for centuries. Only the people of both sides can decide for themselves.
Not Singapore or Singaporean of all races.

Singapore outrightly sided with Ukraine. Would you say that is bending to one side?

SG "sided with Ukraine" because SG share the same interest for respecting International Law against larger country invading smaller ones.

I am sure you appreciate SG position at the UN has always been consistent on this matter be it Russian invasion or Israeli occupation of Palestine.

Now can you just grow up a little to see the World beyond your "my brother and my sister" story ?

Israel repeatedly ignored and broke international law, invading other nations and stealing land. Israel is a rogue state. So why didn't Sg show the same respect for international law when it comes to Israel?

Not really, we sanction Russia base on UN with regards to financial services for Russian entities.

Balakrishnan said.

“Our position remains that it was wrong of Russia, that it was a breach of international law and of the principles of the UN charter for them to launch an invasion of Ukraine,” the foreign minister said

However Singapore never see Russia as our enemy. Our bilateral relationship tie is not broken.

In the case of Russia and Ukraine, we have not broken ties with Russia.

Without spilling state secrets, have I continued to meet informally with my counterpart in Russia?

Yes, I have continued to meet informally. I have told my Prime Minister that I have had to inhale second-hand smoke, and I have drunk good whiskey for the sake of Singapore.

And why do I do that?

Because I am not engaged in performative gestures. I want to hear, I want to understand, at the same time, I want to communicate to him and his country, so they know why we had taken a different position from them.

It is not personal. It is not bilateral and even when we go, as far as to levy sanctions, these are targeted sanctions.
These sanctions say that we will make sure that Singapore is not a portal for arms or dual use equipment which can be used against Ukraine and Ukrainian civilians.

The Russians have had to say certain things about us.

But in fact, if you observe the acts and the actions and the conduct between Russia and Singapore, it has been mutually respectful. It has been constructive.

And I look forward to the day when the war in Ukraine ends and relations and the conduct of business can get back to normal

You have the choice to make anyone your Enemy or Buddy.

However, it is NOT up to you to decide your enemy is my enemy.

Again, I am starting to doubt Ramadan helps clearer mind and soul. Big Grin

This conflict has divided us. We stand clear with the Palestinians.

Your position is blurred. Or perhaps you're on the fence.
