I not surprise. Japan all along desperate to be friendly to USA ever since WW2. They scare of USA due to this and next they can't deal with China obviously much , than come South korea, down to Malaysia. Partly due to WW2 history.

whereas come SG , japan know SG need everyone so they just like " give face trade with SG " next SG market always so small to big countries.
Nah, the Japanese are doing what the do best - drag out the discussion in a senseless bureaucratic quagmire, black box machinations, amorphous statements, one step forward two steps back etc.

Trump had his chance with the liberation day tariffs and he lost it the moment he chickened out within hours. Not only Japan, pretty much the rest of the world will be doing this directionless dance with US for a long time while they busy themselves with alternatives behind the scenes.

The guy is desperate for a mega deal to demonstrate a country has capitulated and the US is still a mighty superpower, but nobody's giving him that - not even highly dependent states like Canada and Mexico.

I reckon his best hope probably lies with Vietnam, but the kind of concession he needs for a media show is simply too much even for the desperate Vietnamese. They will probably offer him some so so deal which he will eventually be forced to accept and then get the media to try and spin to the MAGAs as a WW2 level victory.
