10m population not really a ridiculous number for S'pore to plan for: Liu Thai Ker ..

You can do something doesn't mean you should do it.

10m population means we need to cut down all the forests outside of Bt Timah and central catchment area. All new flats must be above 40 storeys and be smaller than the current area.

Are these something the people want or simply what Liu Thai Ker wants?

10 mil? Umm ... er .....

The Paya Lebar Airport area, once converted to a new town will accommodate how many? 600,000-700,000? Need to find space for another 3.6-3.7million to reach 10mil. Even if we extend the East Coast using polders, that will add space for another 150,000-200,000 if we forego the reservoir and go the land route?

Of course, a lot of the land around paya lebar airport can be rebuilt with taller buildings when there is no more airport there but I doubt that can accommodate 3+ million.

Bro dont worry. Liu Thai Ker is a very well respected planner and he was CEO of HDB for a long time. One can credit the  successful of HDB to him but it is unfortunate that he left the civil service in the 90s.  However, as he said, the 10 million population was already embedded in the early HDB master plan but not sure they have changed it after he left. His aim for the 10 million population is not immediate but for a long tern sustainability. like 100years and most probably majority of us including himself will no longer be around. So there is slight tilt by the politicians here to achieve 10 millions in a shorter span for 'unknown' reasons . I believe Mr Liu meant good. Just look at his warning of Singaporean falling into complacency thus lost our competitive edge is very real.

Believe in his warning, he is still very well respected and connected

I think the PAP has planned to have population of 6.9 million by 2030, but I gather they may want a population of 10 million, but it is not voiced out, but in their hearts of hearts, they want a 10 million pop., by 2030......

10mil can be done, but at great expense to well-being. No greenery, smaller flats, taller blocks, blocks that super close to each other. Better make plan to retire overseas if this happens.

I think if you ask 10 Singaporeans, 9 of them will be able to tell you this. It doesn't take a genius to say this. The problem is how to solve this.

Other than housing, there are other infrastructures to consider, like MRT/buses and road spaces.  Also, land must be allocated to general hospitals, community centres, clinics and food centres.. In addition spaces are to be allocated to reservoirs and electricity generating stations, to cater for basic human needs....

Unlikely to be by 2030. Should be much further into the future. Need time to build infrastructure and increase population.

Even to have a pop. of 6.9 million by 2030 may pose a problem cos our infrastructure may not be 'mature' enough to cater to the basic needs ....
