Now China opens up market for RCEP for 14 other countries in ASEAN, Japan, Korea, Aussie, NZ, etc. China also may join CPTPP benefiting other countries again.
China also signed deals to buy oil from Russia, 25-year deal with Iran, etc. Now 6 OPEC countries also visit Beijing. What do they do？ Of course, oil deal with China.
If Trump first started to seek deal of buying US shale oil, trade benefits could have gone to US instead of going to others.

Start trade war to blame someone for the failure.
IMO, he is not wrong. The American leaders are already cognizant that they're losing their competitive edge to China so even if it's not Trump, somebody will do it. Maybe they'll do it quietly instead of so loudly, but someone will do it. Even Biden is tackling China in another way.
The only real problem they have is that they started the trade war too late. They should have done it 10 years ago.

China is willing to buy shale oil from US. Trade war actually drove away China to buy gas from Russia, 25-year contract to buy from Iran enriching Iran to have the will and strength not to kowtow to US and also RCEP to make Asia big again.

That's why I said they started this 10 years late. If they started this earlier then China would have to agree to every of their terms. Now the chances of success for the Americans are much diminished.
China has already given up on trying to be nice to USA.
