The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has suspended the class licence of sociopolitical website The Online Citizen (TOC) for its failure to declare its funding sources.
It is hence prohibited from posting articles on its website, social media channels and accounts, which it must disable by 3pm on Thursday.
In a statement on Tuesday (Sept 14), IMDA, which regulates internet content providers, said that TOC had “repeatedly failed” to declare all its sources of funding in its 2020 yearly declaration despite many reminders and extensions.
Should TOC fail to comply with the suspension, IMDA may take steps to restrict access to TOC and may hold its officers liable for criminal offences under the Broadcasting Act.

IMDA will order a block on the site because it is a "foreign interference"

You are fear mongering. Why dun TOC give the identities of the sponsors if they have nothing to hide?.......

The same question can be asked.. Why dun HC disclosed how much is her salary if she has nothing to hide..
Yes, I also asked the same question why TOC don't disclosed the identities of the sponsors. But in the event they did, will something happened to the sponsor?? This is probably why TOC will not disclosed..
TOC should be more open who funded it, if is from foreign countries then stop it.
Crowd funding in Sg so easy.

It's different. Dun think HC has any obligation to disclose her salary if she does not wish to disclose. Of course this is irritating to me too as I wish to know how much she gets for her performance. In TOC case if the licensing authority IMDA requires the sponsors detail, TOC is obligated to submit. Failure to submit, IMDA can rightfully withdraws the licence as IMDA are responsible in case some illegal organisations sponsored it and this info is exposed through other sources for example whistle blowers. It is like CECA applicants are required to submit academic certs and failure of MOM to check properly had caused some embarrassment and criticisms......

Because it will violate their privacy and expose them to risk of govt monitoring and action.
If there is any real foreign interference the authority should show proof before they suspend

If TOC survives through crowdfunding they will just find another way to shut it down.....
The old sgtalk survived on advertising not foreign funding...it was also shutdown.....

Hey, the suspension is due to TOC refusal to give identities of sponsors as required by IMDA and not because of foreign interference. You dun twist to mislead the readers.
Funny thing is why dun TOC submit unless there is really something cannot see light. If the sponsors are all law abiding people , why hide?.......

M/s Ho Ching's salary is top secret, cos she is the most powerful person here.

Sorry, HC has obligation to disclose her salary. It might not be to us, but a MP should be able to ask for such info. After all, GIC is using Singaporean's money and MP is our proxy in parliament.
I am not saying TOC is right/wrong to withhold the sponsor's detail. Be it due to whatever reason, TOC has made a decision, and will have to pay whatever price it is for not disclosing.
