When AA was 12 yo, his siblings seemed to disappear. Eldest sister got sponsored by Billy's mom to study in Singapore and older brother got sponsored to Australia. The other sister dropped out of high school and work as waitress in a nearby coffeehouse as she knows English.

Before his eldest sister leave for Singapore, she told AA "Swim Upstream....it's hard but will bring you to the summit."
AA kept this statement in his mind but does not know what it meant.

At 13 years old, AA entered high school and met a teacher who was distributing exercise books to him (poor children). The teacher told AA "Study hard. Education is the key to success." AA's life was transformed. He studied hard on his own and Mdm Liew was pleased.

AA played with children in the football field near his apartment but was always home by 7pm. Washed up, do homework and study until 10 pm. He enjoy reading and asked Mdm Liew to bring back English newspapers from her coffee shop. He loves reading English Premier league news and imagined what it will be like living abroad.
