司马南 is another one of those unscrupulous online influencers who will peddle any rubbish as long as it helps him gain viewership. I consider him no different from many of those anti-China bloggers out there, just that he has a different target market segment (pro-China) instead.

Why I particularly dislike him compared to other influencers is because if one looks at his CV, this guy is obviously a very well-informed and smart intellectual. Sadly instead of pursuing a path of making an honest living through educating normal people, he chose to deliberately say the dumbest, most emotional and sensational things so as to appeal to the pro-China crowd and become a self-declared patriotic thrash talking "superstar".

His expose on Lenovo was a joke - other than making sensational claims of corporate treachery and accusing all sorts of people for being unpatriotic, the specifics of his financial "analyses" was so bad to the point that he was confusing Lenovo and Legend Holdings and using the Chinese term 联想 interchangeably. Some of his pieces concerning military developments is quite far off and again more appeal to emotion than anything concrete. COVID was a bonanza for him, giving him many opportunities to insinuate all sorts of conspiracies but at the same time escaping legal liability by never explicitly claiming something concrete.

If one looks at his videos and postings, there is invariably nothing new. Everything is a parroting of uninformed / misinformed kopitiam views held by laymen which he then combines with his credentials as a "well respected" 爱国公知 and sort of almost morally blackmail other people to be a patriot by supporting him.
