Spring has arrived in Ukraine – with late March temperatures an unreasonably high 17C (63F) along much of the frontline in the east. It means it is possible to declare, definitively, that the Russian campaign to knock out Ukraine’s power grid has failed, and whatever happens next in the war, its people will not be frozen out of their homes, as was once feared when the bombing campaign began on 10 October.
The reality, of course, was the missile strikes on key infrastructure had been largely abandoned at the end of January, with Russian missile stocks at 10-15% of prewar levels, according to Ukrainian estimates.

The reality is that the Kremlin understands this war as an existential threat – by its own warped definition. Vladimir Putin is acutely aware of the fact that his regime is now in grave danger, with all the world’s powers either against it – like the U.S. and EU – or unwilling to explicitly ally themselves with Moscow – such as India and China.
Of course, it is only Putin’s regime that is in danger. Russia will survive. It’s huge. It spreads across 11 time zones. Trying to destroy it would be a fool’s errand, and neither Ukraine nor NATO has any intention of doing so.
But Putin’s own power over Russia, his “Russian world” ideology, and the fantasy of a Great Russia regaining its erstwhile influence over much of Europe and Asia are rehearsing their last gasps.
A prominent pro-war Russian military blogger has been killed in a blast in a cafe in central St Petersburg, Russia’s interior ministry has said. Vladlen Tatarsky, whose real name was Maxim Fomin, had more than 560,000 followers on Telegram and was one of the country’s most influential military bloggers. The interior ministry said 19 people were injured in the blast on Sunday.
Saw a video of a Ukrainian soldier. He say he and many others are "tricked" into being deployed to Bakhmut from other regions. Some units within 1 hour landing in Bakhmut, 4 dead 6 injured. Troops deployed from other regions into Bakhmut casualty rate can be as high as even 90-95% that will never make it back alive. Even if can go back will be severely injured.
Another video a Ukrainian soldier chop off his thumb, index, middle finger still get callup and deployed to frontline. The army fixed some wire from his "fingers" to the gun trigger so he can fire his weapon. Siam callup by chopping off fingers don't work. I think should be chop off an entire arm (both of them) and see if still can get callup and be deployed to frontline or not.

Details: According to Reznikov, the secure command post of the Ministry of Defence, where the minister was supposed to go with his team, was located in Hostomel. As it later became obvious, Russian forces had launched a powerful attack on the city, including a massive troop landing.
Quote: "The command post that was assigned to my staff was located, you'll laugh, in Hostomel, in a protected place that was the first to be ambushed. Theoretically, if we had moved there in at least a day or two, I would have had half of the ministry there. Almost captive.
In Hostomel, came the Russian soldiers to capture the airport story.
