Spring has arrived in Ukraine – with late March temperatures an unreasonably high 17C (63F) along much of the frontline in the east. The reality is that the Kremlin understands this war as an existential threat – by its own warped definition. Vladimir Putin is acutely aware of the fact that his regime is now in grave danger, with all the world’s powers either against it – like the U.S. and EU – or unwilling to explicitly ally themselves with Moscow – such as India and China.

Saw a video of a Ukrainian soldier. He say he and many others are "tricked" into being deployed to Bakhmut from other regions. Some units within 1 hour landing in Bakhmut, 4 dead 6 injured. Troops deployed from other regions into Bakhmut casualty rate can be as high as even 90-95% that will never make it back alive. Even if can go back will be severely injured.

Another video a Ukrainian soldier chop off his thumb,index,middle finger still get callup and deployed to frontline. A mysterious flash that lit up the skies over Ukrainian capital Kyiv generated much speculation. Officials in Kyiv said they suspected it was a Nasa satellite falling to Earth but US space agency told BBC it was still in orbit.

Ukrainian air force suggested the flash might have been a meteorite. The air force seemed confident it had not been caused by a Russian air attack - an event all too familiar since the invasion last year.

Slovakia transferred all 13 pledged MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine, the Slovak Defense Ministry said on April 17.

A police chief in occupied Ukrainian city of Melitopol, who defected to Russia has been killed. Oleksandr Mishchenko died when an improvised device exploded at the entrance to the block where he lived. 

There have recently been reports of heightened Ukrainian partisan activity in the region. Melitopol's exiled mayor said the dead officer was a traitor.
