The recent development is a classic demonstration on the need for any observer in international politics, macro economy or long term investment to avoid chasing news headlines from the mainstream media lest they be misled.

It was only like one month ago when news channels were flooded with all sorts of positive news hyping up Japan as recovering from three decades of lethargy and going onwards to more glorious years ahead. At that time, nothing good seemed to come out from China - everyday was property disaster, demographics trouble, countries having trade wars with China etc.

At the drop of a hat, everything changed. Now it's the other way round - Japan can never do anything right, it's a basket case left right centre (collapsing JPY, not enough babies, political instability, xenophobia, out of touch zaibatsu etc.) whereas China is the one "exceeding expectations" all the time.

While the mainstream media gyrates from one extreme to another at lightning speed, nothing much has changed fundamentally. It is important to maintain emotional stability as we view these things come and go. Don't get suckered into their nonsense and dance to their tune.
