Seems like the problem only applies to Spore users as I was able to login using a (free) VPN - ie via another country IP.

Also got a SSL error message during one of my unsuccessful login attempts (below).
Thus I suspect someone had sabotaged the SSL link/path (using port 443?) between Spore and the AliExpress server for its customer details (merchandise database server is still functional when one is not logged in).
