Lay Kay Kaw, a town built in 2015 to mark peace between govt & Karen National Union (KNU), the oldest ethnic armed organization in Myanmar, was also captured. The KNLA is one of the two armed wings of KNU.victory over Swe Taw Kone is now easier for anti-regime to transport troops supplies. But junta, Myawaddy has become more vulnerable its other camps along border are cut off.
Anti-regime groups were close to capturing Myawaddy town in April. However, O Aung Zeya by military regime compelled them to change tactics & defend themselves in the Dawna Range. KNLA & allies laid siege to Swe Taw Kone, a command base overseen by colonel from 44th Light Infantry Division, in March. An artillery battery, including two 120 mm mortars, attached to base with around 120 troops were deployed.
Base fell on Oct 17 after 7-mths. KNLA troops at frontline / Cobra Column alongside KNLA, with PDF columns & anti-regime including 5 drone units, took part in fighting. 4 junta soldiers were killed. Following mediation by Karenn/Karen State Border Guard Force (BGF), junta abandoned base & withdrew to Myawaddy where 44th Light Infantry Division commander is based, fall of Swe Taw Kone, regime only 6 camps controlled South Eastern Command along Moei River on Thai-Myanmar border, a few columns commanded by 44th Light Infantry Division commander & Infantry Battalion 275 stationed in Myawaddy town.
KNLA forces briefly captured HQ of Infantry Battalion 275 in Myawaddy in April b4 regime retook battalion with help of its allied Karen State BGF. Residents say regime has airdropping reinforcements, food supplies to Myawaddy town.
Hundreds of junta troops sent as reinforcements to Myawaddy as part of Op Aung Zeya have been stuck near Taw Naw Waterfall in Dawna Range since late April are still unable to break defense line of the KNLA and allies.
Supported by the Thai government and BGF, the regime will try to retain its control of Myawaddy town. However, it appears that the KNLA and allies are not targeting Myawaddy town this time. They apparently plan to take down junta positions along the border one by one. KNLA & allies seized 3 bases, including Swe Taw Kone, Kyaik Don and Thingan Nyi Naung in territory of KNU Brigade 6, have been attacking 4th base, Anan Kwin in Kyarinseikkyi Township, Karen State. Their next target maybe Waw Lay camp on Thai-Myanmar border. Base is innermost base among junta’s bases along border. If can capture Waw Lay, it will be easier for them to seize other camps.

Myanmar’s war approaches Mandalay a year after rebel.
MANDALAY - On the outskirts of Mandalay, nervous Myanmar soldiers man a checkpoint just kilometres away from rebels who have set their sights on the former royal capital of 1.5 million people. Ethnic minority rebels and People’s Defence Forces (PDF) battling to overturn the junta’s 2021 coup are riding the wave of a huge offensive launched a year ago on Oct 27 in the hills of neighbouring Shan state.
Weeks ago, residents could hear the sounds of clashes along road that leads out of the country’s 2nd city. “We are afraid of fighting coming here but we have nowhere to hide,” said a man who owns a food shop near the checkpoint, requested anonymity for security reasons.
Operation 1027, named for its start date, has ejected junta from around 50,000 sq km – an area roughly the size of Bosnia – according to analysts & an AFP tally. Spoils include a string of towns along a lucrative trade highway to northern neighbour China, along with most of western Rakhine state, home to proposed Beijing-backed deep-sea port on the Indian Ocean.

MAE SOT, Thailand In a drug treatment centre in a wooden stilt house deep in Thai jungle, refugees from Myanmar wait patiently for prick of an acupuncture needle among thousands become addicted to methamphetamine & other synthetic drugs have flooded camps housing those forced to flee their homes by Myanmar’s civil war.
Myanmar’s junta ousted Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s govt in a Feb 2021 coup, igniting a conflict that has killed 1,000+, displaced nearly 3 mil folks & triggered a boom in drug production. A drug rehabilitation program across border in Thailand, run by former addicts is trying to help stem rising tide of addiction in young living in camps, addict

“They end up taking drugs. Drugs are easy to find in camps,” 34-yr-old told AFP, camp in remote forest loc in Thailand’s western province of Tak.
The Drug & Alcohol Recovery Education (DARE) rehabilitation center, funded by UN & other aid agencies, uses acupuncture as part of regimen , along with massages to reduce drug cravings & yoga to help manage intense withdrawal pains, group op in 5 refugee camps & more than 40 villages in Myanmar’s Karen stats claims a 60% success rate for its 90-day treatment program.
It did not allow AFP to speak to any of its patients or former cases, saying doing so would violate its treatment principles. Cheaper than beer’ more than 3 yrs of conflict in Myanmar combined with easy availability of drugs created a “perfect storm”, Edward a director at DARE, told AFP,
trauma from people who fled their homes and saw their relatives killed and an abundant supply of drugs and a sense of hopelessness,” he said.
As conflict has also seen law enforcement wither, enabling drug gangs to ramp up production.
The “Golden Triangle” region where Myanmar, Thailand and Laos meet has long been a hub for the illegal drug trade. UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) report this yr methamphetamine production has “significantly increased”, sending wholesale prices of drug’s crystal form crashing from over US$10,000 a tonne in 2019 to $4,000 a tonne in 2023. Major Captured, 15 Killed as Myanmar Junta Outpost Falls in Chin State: CDF
Chinland Defense Force (Hakha) reports it killed 15 junta soldiers and captured four, including a major, while seizing their Kiamtlan outpost, 1.6 km from Chin State’s Hakha town. Combined Chinland Defense Forces (CDF) attacked the outpost on Monday as part of Operation Rung. “We took prisoners of war detained them in a safe place,” CDF-Hakha said.“ We learned some of them were involved in torching houses in Thantlang, we will question them.” He added that CDF-Hakha had not deployed troops in Kiamtlan after seizing base. Regime forces responded to the defeat by sending a column from Hakha and another from opposite direction in pincer movement against Chin fighters.
“Clashes are occurring daily, being attacked from two directions are also clashes near outposts along Hakha-Thantlang road. Regime is conducting carries frequent airstrikes & fighting is ongoing in Thantlang,” junta recently retook control of bases seized by Chin resistance groups between Hakha & Thantlang towns, but fighting has continued in the area. Continue from above...The base was the last of three BGF battalion headquarters under the control of Zahkung Tin Ying’s New Democratic Army, which formed the junta-allied border force.
Zahkung Tin Ying was given control of the so-called Kachin State Special Region 1, including Chipwi, Tsawlaw, Pangwa, Kanpiketi and Waingmaw townships. Chipwi and Pangwa are rare earth mining hubs with heavy Chinese investment.
KIA & its allies recently seized Chipwi, Tsawlaw & Pangwa towns & the BGF Battalion 1002 HQ in Lu Pyi village, about 10km fm Pangwa. KIA sealed off Zahkung Tin Ying’s empty house in his hometown of Pangwa after taking control of town, KIA spokesman Colonel Naw Bu told The Irrawaddy.. On October 20, KIA seized the BGF Battalion 1003 HQ in Sin Kyaing village on Waingmaw-Sadung-Kanpiketi rd, around 10km from Kanpiketi.

Revolutionary warfare in Myanmar has changed fundamentally since the 2021 coup. If “network-centric warfare” often refers to technological & info advantages of conventional military forces, Myanmar there is growing “network insurgency” with patterns of cooperation & mutual support amongst multiple Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) & People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) working for one general cause them—the eradication of State Admin Council (SAC) and the surrender of the Myanmar military.
One of key theorists of insurgency evolution, Steven Metz formerly U.S. Army War College, wrote in August about “Challenges of Next-Gen Insurgency”. “Next-gen insurgencies organized as networks with few concentrations of political or military power that state can target,” he said. “Onganization will survival mechanism as states develop more effective technology-based (and, in the future, artificial intelligence–based) intelligence capabilities.”
Unfortunately, junta can still targeting key insurgent personnel & infrastructure with airpower & drones, bombed HQ of EAOs, but not to any major degree—yet Metz is a schematic of direction the evolution of insurgency is taking, a generalized list of patterns of change in armed-group mobilization. Many applicable broadly to Myanmar, they suggest aspects Myanmar unique, shifting from insurgencies “emulative” to those that are “innovative”, many armed groups both want to emulate past insurgencies in some form, also learn from a plethora of mistakes older insurgencies made. Arakan Army (AA), for eg is a thoroughly unique blend of classic insurgency formation with innovative and modernizing features have been developed over past decade, they drive junta out of Rakhine State, attempt to build a new political “confederation”. The AA clearly studied past Rakhine insurgencies, was determined to become an innovative leader in contemporary Myanmar warfare. Since coup.
There has been a “Burma gap” in conflict studies, broader perspectives & comparisons are rarely used, also war in Myanmar is little studied in the broader literature on insurgency. This is why armed group formation in Myanmar needs to be more systematically studied, deeper insights are needed in their motivations, performance, tactical strategic outlooks, importantly, social interaction.
There are hundreds of strands of research by under take on armed-group formation, 3 broad features stand out, 2 positive & 1 negative—alliance building & a military-civilian fusion, & the anti-network zone of Central Myanmar.
Alliance building: One major lessons have emerged from Op 1027 in several other conflict zones is network of loose alliances between pre- & post-coup resistances. The composition forces of both stages of 1027 indicates a combined commitment to toppling the junta & defeating the military, but with more informality than rigid unity.

The use of advanced tech and conventional military warfare by the rebels forces are a tipping point to victory. Airstrikes wil NEVER win the war. Rebel forces hv already plan for years of underground tunnels in many areas. The military junta wil face suicidal mission if they land on ground. But, I won't believed evil military junta dares. When rebels forces come close to capital, the junta will tremble.

Purging Predecessors: Inside the Ruthless Playbook of Myanmar’s Dictators. It is in a dictator’s nature to show no mercy when their power is challenged. Myanmar dictators both past and present provide the perfect example, the latest instance being the arrest of Dr. Nay Soe Maung, son-in-law of ex-dictator Than Shwe, by Min Aung Hlaing’s regime.
News of Dr. Nay Soe Maung’s detention felt like a familiar story to Myanmar people. In 2002, then-dictator Than Shwe opened the previous chapter by jailing the son-in-law and grandchildren of his predecessor, Ne Win, the country’s first military dictator. Now, Than Shwe finds himself on the receiving end, prompting many to remark that karma has come full circle.
Min Aung Hlaing – whom Than Shwe handpicked as his successor – had Nay Soe Maung arrested charge of “damaging state peace stability” his recent Facebook posts criticizing regime. Nay Soe Maung is married to Than Shwe’s favorite daughter, Kyi Kyi Shwe, is father of old dictator’s beloved grandson, Nay Shwe Thway Aung.
Speculation about Than Shwe’s continued influence in Myanmar politics heightened when Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited him at his luxury residence in Naypyitaw in mid-August. But soon after that visit, Min Aung Hlaing had his son-in-law arrested in a public move reported by junta-controlled newspapers.

Wang Yi is just a crook supporting the military junta regime. This is the same way that China suppressed critics comparatively like the junta regime, even to the extreme of genocide against own citizens. That is why those rebels all combined forces to hit back hard on the junta military.
