China's space program is one of the world's most active, with a range of accomplishments including: Space station

China's Tiangong space station was fully assembled in November 2022. The T-shaped station has three modules for crew, cargo, and research, and plans call for adding three more.

Lunar exploration. China's Chang'e-4 rover Yutu-2 is still exploring the moon's "dark side". China was the first to retrieve rock and soil samples from the far side of the moon.

Mars exploration. In 2021, China landed a spacecraft on Mars and released the Zhurong rover, becoming only the second country to do so.

Satellite fleet. China has a large fleet of satellites for communications, navigation, remote sensing, and scientific research. China also launched 18 satellites in August 2023 as part of a constellation that will provide broadband internet coverage from space.

Spacecraft. China has independent human spaceflight capability. The China Manned Space Program (CMS) is designed to develop and improve China's human spaceflight capabilities.

China's space program is managed by the China National Space Administration (CNSA).

The People's Liberation Army Strategic Support Force. China's 2024–2050 space development program focuses on five major scientific themes, including space biology & solar system exploration.

China unveiled on Tuesday its first-ever national-level development program for medium- to long-term space science, which will guide the country's planning of space science missions and space research from 2024 to 2050, including conducting manned lunar exploration by 2027. The plan also establishes the clear goal of building China into a world space science power by 2050.

The program, jointly released by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the China National Space Administration (CNSA) and the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA), aims to "achieve high-quality development in space science, drive breakthroughs in space technology innovation, upgrade space applications, rank among the world's leading space nations, and establish China as a global leader in space science," the CAS said in a statement it provided to the Global Times on Tuesday.

CAS also highlighted in the statement that the implementation of the program is expected to accelerate revolutionary breakthroughs in basic scientific research in China's space science field, enable the country to attain major world-class scientific achievements early, drive next-generation advancements in space technology, and promote high-quality development of space applications.

The program will also provide strong support for building a community with a shared future for humanity in outer space and help establish China as a global powerhouse in space exploration and science & technology, reads CAS statement. The program outlines the country's space science development in three stages.

By 2027, China, with the aim of achieving several original results with significant international impact, will continue to operate the China Space Station, advance planetary exploration missions and implement the fourth phase of its lunar exploration projects. The country's first-ever manned lunar exploration is also scheduled to take place during the pre-2027 period.

Lin Xiqiang, a CMSA spokesperson, said on Tuesday at a press conference on the program that "manned lunar exploration is a strategic endeavor that promotes the progress of human civilization and demonstrates the responsibility of a major power."

The Xiaozhai Tiankeng hosts more than 1,200 species of plants and animals, many of which have existed for millions of years. The forest within the Leye County sinkhole may also contain new, undiscovered species, sparking excitement among researchers. The scale and complexity of these ecosystems offer rare insights into ancient environments.

Other Sinkholes in China
Another stunning sinkhole in China is the Dashiwei Tiankeng in Guangxi province. It is 1,148 feet deep, with cliffs covered in lush greenery. Visitors can walk along observation decks and marvel at the steep walls and dense vegetation below. The sinkhole’s unique ecosystem remains largely untouched.

Further afield, in Shaanxi province, the Shuanghe Tiankeng Group consists of a cluster of smaller sinkholes connected by underground rivers and caves. This area, discovered in 2016, reveals a complex system of karst formations where water erosion has carved out breathtaking chambers over millions of years.

Almost no one ever writes about the Parker Solar Probe anymore.

Sure, the spacecraft got some attention when it launched.  It is, after all, the fastest moving object that humans have ever built. At its maximum speed, goosed by the gravitational pull of the Sun, the probe reaches a velocity of 430,000 miles per hour, or more than one-sixth of 1 percent the speed of light. That kind of speed would get you from New York City to Tokyo in less than a minute.

Silent triangles in the night sky—sounds like the title of a sci-fi thriller, doesn’t it? But for residents of New Jersey, it’s not a movie; it’s their reality. Imagine you’re driving along a quiet rural road under a blanket of stars when, out of nowhere, a massive triangular object hovers silently above you. It has lights on its underside—three, maybe four—steadily glowing, as if it’s sizing you up. There’s no hum, no whir of machinery, not even the faint buzz of a conventional drone. Just an eerie silence that somehow feels louder than any noise could. Welcome to New Jersey’s most unsettling mystery…
