It is accused of being a city built on scams, home to a lucrative yet deadly nexus of fraud, money-laundering and human trafficking. The man behind it, She Zhijiang, is languishing in a Bangkok jail, awaiting extradition to China. But Yatai, She Zhijiang's company which built the city, paints a very different vision of Shwe Kokko in its promotional videos – as a resort city, a safe holiday destination for Chinese tourists and haven for the super-rich.

Junta HQ Falls in Key Kachin Town.
The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has captured another junta position in Bhamo, a district-level town in Kachin State where the armed group has been fighting for 2 mths. The
KIA & its allies seized Artillery Battalion 366 headquarters on Sunday. KIA Colonel Naw Bu told The Irrawaddy. He added attacks continue on the nearby 21 Military Op Command (MOC) HQ.
A junta defector Zin Yaw, a former captain, said Artillery Battalion 366 was one of the strongest junta positions in Bhamo, making the 21 MOC easier to capture. He said: “When 21 MOC falls, only Infantry Battalion 47 will be left. KIA & its allies can use captured weapons & armored vehicles to fight remaining troops. Once MOC falls, remaining bases'll crumble rapidly.”

& Armored Battalion 7006 in late January. The remaining bases in junta power hub are smaller, combat-support units where family members have been armed as auxiliary forces, said Zin Yaw. Bhamo is 2nd only to the capital Myitkyina in Kachin State is close to KIA’s Laiza HQ. BANGKOK: Thailand's Special Investigation (DSI)  seek to arrest warrants for 3-leaders of Myanmar Border Guard Forces (BGF) on charges of human trafficking, Justice Minister Tawee Sodsong announced on Tuesday (Feb 11). stated  case is against 1)  Colonel Saw Chit Thu, 2) Lieutenant Colonel Mote Thone, & 3)  Major Tin Win, all dated back several years when Thai nationals were been detained in Myanmar.

BGF are military units op under Myanmar’s junta Regional Military Commands, comprising former insurgent. He stressed arrest warrants are not linked to info provided by Liu Zhongyi, China’s Asst Minister of Public Security who recently visited the Thailand’s Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau. A total of 36 major Chinese call-centre scam gangs were operating in Myawaddy, employing over 100,000 scammers to defraud victims. The Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) was is collaborating with DSI to trace & seize their financial assets of those involved.

Once warrants are issued, Thai authorities will coordinate with Myanmar to arrest and extradite the suspects. Cooperation will be carried out through Asean channels, he declined whether arrest warrants would also be issued against call-centre scam gangs, as noted both US & Chinese ambassadors had urged Thailand to take stronger action on these gangs as a “threat to humanity”, adding they also operate from Golden Triangle are involved in illegal drug trade. While, Thailand's Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa stated he was unaware plans to seek arrest warrants for three BGF leaders.

Notorious warlord Saw Chit Thu claims he has done “a lot” to combat human trafficking to online scam centers in his Myawaddy fiefdom and helped free many of their victims. Junta-allied Karen militia leader Saw Chit Thu on Tuesday protested against a threat by the Thai government to arrest him over the clusters of online scam operations that thrive in his fiefdom in Myawaddy on the Thai border.

“I would like to ask: what exactly have I done to Thailand that would justify such an arrest?” Saw Chit Thu demanded, speaking to BBC Burmese. “Have I committed any acts of rebellion against Thailand?”

The warlord, who heads one of several so-called Border Guard Forces (BGF) or ethnic junta-aligned militias, runs the scam center hub of Shwe Kokko in Myawaddy Township in a joint venture with Yatai International, owned by notorious Chinese criminal She Zhijiang, who is being held in a Bangkok prison.

However, beneath the surface, former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra, known as "STR" – an acronym meaning "Meddling in everything" – has emerged as a hidden player, reportedly collaborating with Myanmar to pressure Border Guard Force (BGF), Karen militia controls Myawaddy. Liu Zhongyi, Beijing's enforcer, is closely overseeing crackdown on call-centre fraud gangs in Myawaddy, his actions risk triggering border tensions. "Sin City” cleanup led by Liu Zhongyi has sparked widespread debate. Some question Thai govt's inaction, while others argue China is encroaching on Thailand's sovereignty. Myawaddy lies on border, next to Thailand’s Mae Sot in Tak province. Crackdown on Chinese crime syndicates is a joint effort by China, Myanmar, & Thailand, shaped by unique political within ASEAN, that Beijing wields significant influence.

Liu Zhongyi's success is inseparable from behind-the-scenes diplomacy. Key figures like Thaksin and Min Aung Hlaing have played critical roles in pressuring Major General Saw Chit Thu, the junta-allied BGF warlord, as well as the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA), which also protects scam syndicates. Thai implemented a "3-cuts" strategy – cutting electricity, fuel, & internet services to syndicates – Myanmar added pressure by halting fuel supplies. As a result, Saw Chit Thu capitulated launched crackdown on Chinese-run fraud op relocated from Myawaddy to Hpa-An, capital of Kayin (Karen) State.Last Friday, Liu Zhongyi visited Naypyitaw where he met w/junta’s Home Affairs Minister Tun Tun Naung  to secured approval to enter Myawaddy.

In Shwe Kokko, Liu met Lieutenant Colonel Tin Win, deputy commander of BGF, but did not meet BGF leader Saw Chit Thu. On same day, Saw Chit Thu held press conference to announce he had not met or spoken with Chinese representatives, but he sent a letter to Chinese through Thai representatives. Saw Chit Thu said.
