The christian God does not

Isaiah 58:3-5, where God criticizes empty rituals, including fasting, that do not align with justice and compassion

What does Isaiah 58 verse 3 mean?

The members of Isaiah's audience were fasting for all the wrong reasons! They fasted to get things from God and hypocritically appear righteous. God says, though, that we should fast to free others from their sins, to intercede with God for their healing, to help provide for their needs and to understand His will.

What is the main message of Isaiah 58?

God desires more than lip service; he calls us to live in relationship with him. God calls us not to an empty show, but to life in all its fullness.13 Jun 2022

What are the benefits of fasting according to Isaiah 58?
  • Your light will break forth like the dawn (verse 8).
  • Your healing will quickly appear (verse 8).
  • Your righteousness will go before you (verse 8).
  • The glory of the Lord will be your rear guard (verse 8).
  • You will call and the Lord will answer (verse 9).
  • You will cry for help, and he will say, “Here am I” (verse 9).

Why does God recommend fasting?

Fasting will encourage the Holy Spirit to quicken the Word of God in your heart and His truth will become more meaningful to you.

What does Isaiah 58:5 mean?

True fasting
True fasting, according to the Lord, is about aligning the heart with His will rather than merely performing religious rituals. This verse emphasizes the inadequacy of hypocritical worship characterized by external displays without genuine repentance or justice.

How does God reward fasting?

God rewards Christian fasting because it attunes us to the very purpose of God in the universe: to magnify himself in our desiring, enjoying, and being satisfied in him. And he rewards it not just with what we're asking for with our fast, but ultimately with who he is as our desire, enjoyment, and satisfaction.

When should we fast according to the Bible?

So when should you fast? Well, fasting in the Bible is done when you want to recognize a period of time as sacred. For example, every year on the Day of Atonement, Israelites would fast to humble themselves before God and to celebrate God's forgiveness of their moral failures.24 Jun 2024

Isaiah 58:3-5

New International Version

‘Why have we fasted,’ they say,
‘and you have not seen it?
Why have we humbled ourselves,
    and you have not noticed?’

“Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please
    and exploit all your workers.

Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife,
and in striking each other with wicked fists.
You cannot fast as you do today
and expect your voice to be heard on high.

Is this the kind of fast I have chosen,
only a day for people to humblethemselves?
Is it only for bowing one’s head like a reed
and for lying in sackcloth and ashes?
Is that what you call a fast,
a day acceptable to the Lord?

Luke 18:9-14, Jesus tells the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector, which illustrates the concept that humility and sincerity in one's relationship with God are more valuable than mere religious practices, including fasting.

Fasting is seen as a tool for spiritual growth, but it should never become a performance or a way to seek approval from other

The Hadith records that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) advised that if someone tries to argue or provoke a believer during their fast, that believer should respond with patience and refrain from conflict, saying, "I am fasting."

Exactly. I get a lot of insults from the two Christians here. They lied and said all kinds of evil things about me just because I wish to remind them of Jesus's teachings.

What makes you think this anti-Islam youtuber will tell you the truth about Islam? The only reason he is still around is because Christians are happy to pay him a lot of money just to spread lies about Islam.

If the Quran can be preserved word for word, why weren't the words of Jesus preserved like the Quran? The fact that they weren't causes a lot of confusion in Christendom, resulting in many denominations.

I believe what Jesus said in the Bible and obey Him lah! Big Grin I'm more bothered that you still don't believe lah!
