Sarawak authorities justify RM50,000 wooden jetty partly due to crocodile infestation
SINGAPORE — The public works authorities in Sarawak have defended their decision to build a RM50,000 (S$16,110) wooden jetty at a village, saying that the location is infested with crocodiles.
Pictures of the jetty made of belian timber at Kampung Mutap in Bekenu, Sarawak, have been circulating online since last Friday, when the authorities JKR Sarawak posted photos of the 1m wide by 15m long jetty on their Facebook page to mark its building completion.

belian is a very hard wood, but the works is a rather simple one. either under sgd 10k or rm 20k can do already

Ai hor, that Jetty is a risky place to work...just like those workers in oil and gas /oil rigs environment the salary cost three times more ! Also insurance cost more for workers too! transport materials cost to jetty area need to carry by hands

Jetty is used for boats to come alongside so that people can embark and disembark from the boat. So it is built over water with large sturdy trunk size woods piled into the seabed or river bed. I saw about 5 such logs on one side from the picture, so there should be at least 10 on both sides. After that the rest of the wooden structures are built on these foundations.
It is not really an easy job. So I think S$16K is not really expensive.......
