KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 22): The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has expressed his desire for an inclusive government, said Pakatan Harapan (PH) chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday (Nov 22).

The PH candidate for prime minister also said in a press conference outside Istana Negara that there is no final decision yet on the appointment of the 10th PM of Malaysia after the King’s audience with him and Perikatan Nasional (PN) chief Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

"No result at this point. For now, [the PM post has] got a vacancy and [is] open for application," Anwar responded when the media enquired.

“His Highness began by expressing his desire to form a strong government that is more inclusive of race, religion and region that is able to allow the government to focus on resolving the problems of the rakyat and to resuscitate our economy,” he said.

According to The Vibes, Muhyiddin left Istana Negara at 5.10pm without speaking to the press.

Both Anwar and Muhyiddin were summoned to be at the Palace at 4.30pm after His Majesty had found no Member of Parliament commanding a majority by the nominations of the future PM received from all heads of political parties and coalitions.

Meanwhile, Istana Negara in a statement on Tuesday stated that the Agong has summoned all 30 elected MPs from Barisan Nasional to be interviewed individually starting at 10.30am on Wednesday (Nov 23).

The comptroller said this process is so that the Agong could appoint one of the MPs that, to his judgement, may command the confidence of the majority of the Dewan Rakyat as PM, as according to Clause 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution.

BN leaders confirm another supreme council meeting tonight

6.40pm: MIC deputy president M Saravanan has confirmed that there will be a second BN supreme council meeting scheduled for tonight at Menara Dato Onn.

Without divulging further details, Saravanan says the meeting will take place at Umno’s headquarters at 8.30pm.

“I don’t know. So far, I only received a notice about the meeting,” he tells the waiting press as he exits the building.

Meanwhile, MCA president Wee Ka Siong also says that there will be a meeting scheduled tonight.

KUALA LUMPUR: Caretaker Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the current government or “caretaker government” and the “caretaker Cabinet” will continue to function under his leadership.

“Therefore, the rakyat must not be confused (and feel) as if there is no government because the former government still remains as the ‘caretaker government’.

“In fact, even the Cabinet is still functioning as a ‘caretaker Cabinet’, excluding those who did not contest in the 15th general election or those who lost, because they are not MPs anymore,” he said in a statement.

Ismail said a special Parliament session would be held to table a budget before Dec 31 so that civil servants could be paid their salaries, if a new government had not been formed by then.

He said the special Parliament session would be a brief session with no debates and urged civil servants to remain calm and not to worry about the payment of their salaries.

“The budget must be tabled before Dec 31, to ensure civil servants can receive their salaries for January,” he said.

Over 23,000 sign petition urging GPS MPs to reject pact with PN

PETALING JAYA: A petition calling for Christian MPs from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to reject any collaboration with Perikatan Nasional to form the next government has garnered over 23,400 signatures as at 9.45pm.

The petition on Change.org was launched yesterday after a Sarawak assemblyman called on GPS to reject any alliance with Perikatan Nasional and its component party PAS, claiming that they were “racist bigots”.

Baru Bian, a former head of Sarawak PKR, said that MPs in the state must preserve the harmony that existed in Sarawak’s multiracial and multi-religious society.

He then alluded to a statement by PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin about purported attempts to Christianise Malaysia by Pakatan Harapan.

Muhyiddin has since stated that his speech was taken out of context by PN’s rivals to tarnish his image.

Baru also said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had shown himself to be a “religious and racist bigot” after Hadi had blamed non-Muslims as being the root of corruption.

On Monday, GPS chairman Abang Johari Openg said the coalition would join an alliance of PN, BN and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah to establish a government. BN has since said no talks had been held with GPS or PN.

Groups alarmed by May 13 disinformation, hate speech on social media
A group of civil society organisations have expressed alarm and dismay over what they say is a well-coordinated and paid attempt on social media to generate anti-DAP and anti-Chinese fear and hatred.

In a joint statement, the Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ), Architects of Diversity (AOD), Justice for Sisters, Beyond Borders, Sisters in Islam (SIS), KRYSS Network, Persatuan Sahabat Wanita Selangor and Pusat Komas are alarmed at the current disinformation and hate campaign at a time of political uncertainty.

“CIJ’s social media monitoring programme for GE15 has found what seems to be a well-coordinated and paid attempt on social media to generate anti-DAP and anti-Chinese fear and hatred since the elections.

“Inflammatory posts, which are mostly on TikTok, have been pushing an anti-DAP agenda while calling for mainly Perikatan Nasional (PN) to govern the country.

“These posts demonstrate trends that include a rewriting of the history of May 13, 1969, including that the DAP was the cause of the race riots,” said the groups.

They said that the posts then evolved into videos containing images of weapons and guns, with messages warning the Malay majority to beware of DAP and Pakatan Harapan.

“They also threatened a return of racial unrest,” said the groups.

CIJ executive director Wathshlah Naidu said that there is significant engagement on TikTok but these posts have also gone viral across platforms such as Twitter.

“There seems to be a well-coordinated and resourced trend of paid partnership where young content creators are being used and netizens being manipulated to spread this content.

“User-generated comments are also significantly coordinated with certain accounts amplifying these hate messages.

“These contents using the May 13 incident are creating fear, polarising the already divided society along racial and religious lines, and at times inciting outright violence while leveraging the deepened social tensions,” she said.

KUALA LUMPUR: The King will be meeting his fellow Rulers at a special gathering at Istana Negara tomorrow (Nov 24).

It is understood that His Majesty will be seeking the opinions of the Rulers on the impasse in the formation of a federal government.

The meeting will begin at 10.30am and it is expected to last at least three hours.

Palace sources said the special meeting would be crucial.

The Yang Dipertuan Agong has been trying to put up a unity government comprising Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional but has failed so far.

Mahathir hopes party that ‘won GE15’ forms govt

PETALING JAYA: Pejuang chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad hopes the party that “won the general election” will form the next government.

The former prime minister also hoped that the party or parties that form the next government will be able to resolve the problems afflicting the nation.

In a statement, Mahathir said he was saddened by Pejuang’s dismal performance in the polls, where it lost all the 125 seats it contested, but added that he accepted the decision of the voters.

“Pejuang could not even be in the opposition in the Dewan (Rakyat), and had to drop whatever plans it had for the country,” he said.

He said all Pejuang could do now was to monitor how the next government would lead the nation.

Mahathir said that with him no longer an MP, he will focus on writing on historical events in Malaysia, adding that he is open to being interviewed by authors for this.

“The supreme council also agreed for all party representatives who won Parliament seats in the 15th General Election to obey and accept whatever unity government or other forms of government that will be announced by the King,” he said in a statement after a three-hour special meeting at WTC KL here late Wednesday (Nov 23) night.

Ahmad said these were among the points agreed during the meeting which was chaired by party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said during the meeting, the council had acknowledged and gone through details of earlier discussions between Barisan’s negotiation committee with both Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan.

The council, said Ahmad, also reiterated its support towards Ahmad Zahid to continue as Barisan chairman.

“The council also unanimously supports him as Umno president,” he said, adding that this year, the Umno general assembly would be held from Dec 21 to 24. ANN

KUALA LUMPUR: The presidents of Barisan Nasional component parties, namely MCA, MIC and PBRS, have allegedly signed a letter of no confidence against coalition chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic).

The Star sighted the letter dated Nov 23, which was addressed to Barisan secretary-general Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir.

“We, as the official representatives of MCA, MIC and PBRS, take a vote of no confidence against the chairman for betraying the decision of the Barisan supreme council meeting of Nov 22, to not support any party in the formation of government.

“The ten statutory declarations sent to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin were retracted upon the decision of the Barisan supreme council.

“However, Ahmad Zahid was found to have sent a letter to the Palace at noon on Nov 22 after the Barisan supreme council meeting.

“The letter from Ahmad Zahid stated that 30 Barisan MPs were in support of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“This obviously betrays the decision made by the Barisan supreme council and he also relayed this erroneous message to the King, which is akin to treason,” stated the letter.

It further called for Ahmad Zahid to step down and be replaced by his deputy Datuk Seri Mohammad Hassan.

“This was proposed by the MIC president in the Barisan meeting on Nov 22 but the meeting was disrupted when the president allowed Barisan MPs to enter the room although the meeting had yet to be completed,” stated the letter.

PETALING JAYA: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will heed the King’s wish for a unity government, says Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Joseph Salang Gandum.

He maintained that PRS MPs would follow GPS’ decision, according to The Borneo Post.
“GPS as a group is taking heed of the King’s desire for a unity government. If a unity government is what the King wants, I think we should follow that,” Salang said.

However, when asked if GPS would be willing to back Pakatan Harapan chairman Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister, he parried the question, saying he was not talking about who would helm the top post.

His Majesty took the unusual step of meeting with all of the country’s 222 lawmakers after Mahathir’s resignation to determine who had a majority to form a new government, eventually picking former Mahathir ally Muhyiddin Yassin.

Less than a year later, after Muhyiddin’s own coalition fell apart, the king asked lawmakers to submit a letter each on who they backed as PM and decided to appoint the next premier – Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who was in power until the recent election.

GE15: King summons all 30 Barisan MPs to Istana Negara on Nov 23 morning

PETALING JAYA: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has summoned all 30 Barisan Nasional MPs to Istana Negara on Wednesday (Nov 23) morning.

Each MP will have an individual audience with the King, starting from 10.30am, said Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin in a statement on Tuesday (Nov 22).

This is the next step in Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah's decision-making process after the audience with Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at 4.30pm on Tuesday, he said.

"The process is to allow the King to make a decision to appoint a Member of Parliament who, in His Majesty's wisdom, would command majority support in the Dewan Rakyat as provided by Article 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution," said Ahmad Fadil.

He added that the King calls upon and advises all Malaysians to be patient and calm until the process of forming a new Federal Government and appointing the 10th prime minister is completed.

"His Majesty calls upon the people to pray that the process goes smoothly for the sake of this beloved nation.

"His Majesty also calls upon the people to pray for the country and for the people to always be blessed and protected from disasters and calamities," said Ahmad Fadil.
