The flight attendant only refer to Vegan food as "dog food" because he considered it is sub-par. It is not really dog food. This is what he wrote:
my airline doesn’t have a wide variety of vegan options and what we do have is often sub-par. We refer to it as “dog food” because it literally comes out of a can.

I always refer to vegetarian food "cow grass" because it like what cows eat.
Anyway, cows are vegetarians, not dogs.
