Slovakia likely to hand over MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine

President Joe Biden will host Ukrainian President Zelensky at White House Tuesday as discussions on a Ukraine aid deal remain stalled in Congress. The visit, which the White House announced Sunday, is Zelensky’s third visit to Washington since war in Ukraine began. Last visited is in September.

Zelensky’s visit comes at a critical moment in congressional negotiations for emergency aid to Ukraine. Congress appears no closer to a deal tying immigration and border policy changes to the emergency aid package that will provide funding for Ukraine and Israel before lawmakers leave town for the holidays.

The Ukrainian president was also invited to speak at an all-senators meeting Tuesday morning by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, a Senate leadership aide said. House Speaker Mike Johnson will meet with Zelensky too, his office said in a statement.

White House meeting is meant to “underscore United States’ unshakeable commitment to supporting people of Ukraine as they defend themselves against Russia’s brutal invasion.”

Ukraine Zelenskiy has struggled to persuade US Republicans to support $61bn military aid package on his trip to Washington DC, with objectors insisting on White House concessions on border security as a condition for deal. The Ukrainian president addressed members of the Senate in a closed 90-minute meeting Tuesday morning, but afterwards key Republicans repeated that they wanted to see a crackdown on immigration between US and Mexico in return for supporting the package.

Lindsey Graham, a senator for South Carolina, told Zelenskiy that the problem was “nothing to do with you”. He also “I said: ‘You’ve done everything anybody could ask of you. This is not your problem here.’”

a striking example of battlefield ingenuity and the enduring capability of older military hardware, an old Ukrainian T-64BV Main Battle Tank (MBT) accomplished a notable feat by destroying a modernized Russian T-72B3 tank. This incident has drawn attention to the T-64BV's continued relevance and effectiveness in modern warfare.

The T-64BV, though older in design, can fire Armor-Piercing Fin-Stabilized Discarding Sabot (APFSDS) rounds and AT-8 Songster missiles. The APFSDS round is known for its high penetration capabilities, making it particularly effective against contemporary tank armor including ERA (Explosive Reactive Armor). The T-64BV's success in this engagement can be largely attributed to the use of these rounds, which are designed to penetrate heavy armor, something the T-72B3, despite its modernizations, is still vulnerable to.

Another factor contributing to the T-64BV's success is its experienced crew. In tank warfare, skill and experience of the crew play a significant role in the effectiveness of the vehicle. Ukrainian tank crews have honed their skills in ongoing conflict, combining their expertise with the T-64BV's capabilities to effectively engage and destroy more modern main battle tanks.

Ukraine’s is interest in THAAD is well-founded, considering its robust capabilities as an anti-missile defense system.

The THAAD Weapon System achieved a flawless 100% flight test intercept record. In 2022, it successfully demonstrated integration with the PAC-3 MSE interceptor, further solidifying its capabilities. THAAD system’s exceptional flight test success rate and its combat-proven status continue to fuel demand, showcasing a global commitment to 21st Century Security. Making headlines recently, the Terminal High Altitude Air Defense (THAAD) system has gained attention as one of the sought-after weapons in Kyiv’s extensive list of requests from the United States.
