Slovakia likely to hand over MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine

US Senate Dec. 19. Washington will not be able to approve new aid for Ukraine before year's end, as two sides continue to seek a compromise. "As negotiators work through remaining issues, it is our hope that their efforts will allow Senate to take swift action... early in the new year," Democrat Chuck Schumer and Republican Mitch McConnell said in a joint statement.

"In this time remaining this year, Senate and Admin negotiators will continue to work in good faith toward finalizing their agreement."
"Challenging issues remain, but we are committed to addressing needs at southern border and to helping allies and partners confront serious threats in Israel, Ukraine and the Indo-Pacific. The Senate will not let these national security challenges go unanswered."

Announcement from Capitol Hill marked another setback for Ukrainian President Zelensky, whose govt has warned of the "dire need" for weapons ahead of winter.

The Battle for Avdiivka Proves: Hiding In A Basement Won’t Save You From Ukraine’s M-2 Fighting Vehicles. The 47th Brigade’s U.S. made M-2 Bradley fighting vehicles are killing Russians by dozen. Blasting the Russians with their fast-firing 25 millimeter autocannons—and even squashing panicked Russian troops in their basement hideouts.

Ukrainian drone video circulated online on the day depicts 47th Brigade Bradley crew meeting Russian infantry assault in Stepove, settlement north of Avdiivka and the locus of the fighting on the city’s northern flank.

Drone spots a Russian infantry team scurrying through basement door of a ruined house in the no-man’s land in Stepove, the drone-operator directs an M-2 toward distinctive green door then 3-person Bradley rolls right up basement—and flattens the entrance with its 28-ton bulk.

Then M-2 reverses away, firing as it goes pops smoke, spins around and speeds back toward the Ukrainian line. It’s a new way of fighting the Russians around Avdiivka

Putin wanted  to eat up Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry has summoned the Russian ambassador over a call by a Russian politician to annex the former Soviet republic, The Russian nationalist writer Zakhar Prilepin, who is co-chair of the A Just Russia – For Truth party, said this week he believed Russia should annex Uzbekistan and other countries whose citizens travelled en masse to Russia for work. Else they Putin cannot eat up Ukraine folks. They fight for 2 years to stop Putin kill as the Ukraine one to join Euro...as member.. Big Grin ..Putin can be stop.

The Uzbek foreign ministry told the Russian ambassador, Oleg Malginov, on Thursday that Tashkent was “deeply concerned” about the “provocative” comments.

Malginov, in turn, said Prilepin’s comments had nothing to do with the official Kremlin position, the ministry said.

Millions of migrant labourers from formerly Soviet republics in Central Asia work in Russia, and their presence sometimes leads to economic and ethnic tensions. Russia’s annexation of Crimea and later other areas of Ukraine has caused unease among other ex-Soviet republics.

Eurasia Daily, Russia-based journal, said Kyiv could have launched Patriot missiles, which have a range of up to 160km against high-altitude targets, from western side of the Dnipro River, it said. Ukrainian aviation expert Valeriy Romanenko told Ukrainian NV Radio believed Patriot missiles likely downed the 3-Russian jets.
"This was a situation there Russians were ... dropping up to 100 bombs in south. Three were flying together and got caught. They didn't quite take into account that Patriot has a range of 160 km for aerodynamic targets," Romanenko said.

Ukrainian successes have become less frequent since forces made lightning gains a year ago in retaking Russian-held territory in the northeast and in the south.

Revenge for Germany...European intelligence suggests Russia may launch an attack on Europe during the winter of 2024-2025 if the United States finds itself "without a leader" following the 2024 U.S. presidential election, the German tabloid Bild reported on Dec. 23, citing an anonymous European intelligence source.

Intelligence service source contends that a potential Russian strike on Europe could occur within the presidential transitionary period, contingent on President Joe Biden not securing re-election in the 2024 U.S. presidential election. This transition period spans three months, from the November 2024 U.S. presidential election to the subsequent inauguration in January 2025.

According to the intelligence source, Russia may aim to launch an attack on Europe during this transition, especially if the leading Republican candidate, former President Donald Trump, is re-elected. Assistance to European countries is anticipated to follow, albeit with some delay.

Any Day Now, Ukraine Will Finally Get Its F-16s. On Friday, Ukrainian president Zelensky said he had thanked Dutch govt “for its decision to start preparing the initial 18 F-16 jets for their delivery to Ukraine.”

Dutch defense ministry stressed F-16s wouldn’t ship until all paperwork was in order and the Ukrainian defense ministry had suitable air bases and enough trained personnel.

Ukrainian pilots have been in Romania learning to fly the nimble F-16. There probably is no reason Ukraine’s first batch of F-16s won’t begin to arrive within weeks, if not days.

Netherlands, Denmark and Norway all have pledged to Ukraine their surplus F-16s. It’s possible Ukraine could get more than 60 of the single-engine, single-seat, supersonic fighters to bolster existing—and much less sophisticated—MiG and Sukhoi fighters.

These first 18 F-16s—out of 42 the Dutch air force could make available in the coming year or so—have been “improved,” Yuriy Ignat, a Ukrainian air force spokesperson, told Ukrainian media.

It’s true: the F-16A/B Mid-Life Updates, or MLUs, are improved compared to the original F-16 from the early 1980s. But don’t expect the Ukrainian planes to get the latest improvements that, say, the U.S. Air Force is adding to its own F-16s.

Currently real or no real the encirclement of Avdiivka by Russian occupiers. Source: saying Oleksandr Shtupun, spokesman for Joint Press Centre of the Tavriia Defence Forces, on the 24/7 national newscast

Quote: "At the moment, we'e holding the line. There's always a threat of encirclement and breakthrough. But we are pulling up reserves, we are reformatting are inflicting losses on enemy. Every day, they lose 300-400 people killed and injured and a lot of military equipment lost.

At the same time, Shtupun said that in area of Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Ukrainian troops have captured two large groups of occupants of about 5-people each over past three days.

"They surrendered not only, but almost without a fight. Two of our servicemen captured a much larger group of occupants. Morale in that area is generally broken & are ready to surrender without a fight. One group just surrendered ‘on sight’, so to speak: several shots were fired in the air and they surrendered," said spokesman.

Ukraine's Western allies promised Kyiv the advanced U.S.-made F-16 jets months ago, but questions remained about exactly when the aircraft would take to Ukraine's skies.

Kyiv had clamored for the jets, which would boost Ukraine's ability to contest Russia's dominance in the skies and launch more strikes on key Russian targets. The F-16s are equipped with more modern avionics and radars and are designed to launch the NATO-standard weapons Ukraine has been using with its older, Soviet-era jets

In recent days, Russian-aligned or anti-Ukrainian Telegram channels have speculated that Ukraine may have made use of the advanced jets to take out key Russian assets, although there has been no confirmation that Ukraine has received the jets.

A U.S. source told Newsweek on Wednesday that it was likely Ukraine had indeed received the first of the promised F-16s.

In the past three weeks, Russia is reported to have lost eight jets—a blow to Moscow's air force. On December 5, the Ukrainian military said it had shot down a Russian jet around Snake Island, a Black Sea outpost around 30 miles from Ukraine's coastline close to Romania.

In the early hours of December 26, a Ukrainian missile strike damaged Russia's Novocherkassk landing ship in Crimea. Russian-aligned or anti-Ukrainian Telegram channels have since speculated that an F-16 was used to fire the cruise missiles at the Russian vessel, and what threat the jets in Ukraine's hands could pose to the Kremlin.

"This aircraft is integrated into the NATO command and control system, and that is the danger," one prominent Russian military blogger said on Tuesday.

Although not officially announced, it is not impossible that Ukraine has received at least an initial batch of F-16s. In mid-October, Ukraine debuted its ATACMS missiles in eye-catching assaults on Russian airbases that wiped out a slew of Russian helicopters. The attacks are thought to have caught Moscow by surprise, with the weapons confirmed after Ukraine first fired the missiles.

The same could be true of the long-awaited fast jets, and could offer Ukraine a much-needed advantage as the frontlines stagnate in the biting winter months."I hope the West has learned NOT to announce new weapons systems, as was done for the most part for the first 20 months of the war," said Daniel Rice, former special adviser to Ukraine's lead commander, General Valery Zaluzhny.

"Russian forces should learn 'the hard way' when Ukraine fields a new weapon," Rice, who is now president of American University Kyiv, told Newsweek.
