Iswaran slapped with fresh corruption charges, new counts involve some US$14,200 in valuable items the ex-politician allegedly obtained, including bottles of whisky, golf clubs and even a bicycle.  He's accused of receiving items from Lum Kok Seng, MD of a company involved in construction of an MRT station.

Iswaran gets 8 new charges of obtaining S$19,000 in valuables such as whisky, Brompton bike from construction firm boss

Iswaran pleaded not guilty to the new charges. He now faces 35 charges in all.

It is the parent company of Lum Chang Building Contractors, which won a contract in 2016 for works at Tanah Merah MRT station.

Although Iswaran became Transport Minister only in 2021, charge sheets stated that he knew about Mr Lum's business connections to his ministerial role when the offences allegedly occurred between November 2021 and November 2022.

The 61-year-old pleaded not guilty as well to the new charges. He now faces a total of 35 charges.

Media regarding Mr Lum, Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) said it "will take a decision in respect of investigations against Mr Lum Kok Seng after case against Mr S Iswaran has been completed, including presentation of evidence"

"At the material time, Mr Lum Kok Seng was the managing director of Lum Chang Holdings Limited." 

In January, AGC made a similar statement regarding Mr Ong Beng Seng. Most of Iswaran's initial 27 charges were for receiving "valuable things" from Mr Ong between 2015 and 2022.

This coming General Election (GE) has gave newest mint PM a chance (is perfect in good  condition) to present a new 4th G & with a few oldish (think PM Lee will be a senior to the new tean). It's to balance up to the newer 4th G team for voters to try teeming with new game, togather with Tharman Shanmugaratnam the new Singapore president. Show is coming. Akan datang.

SINGAPORE: Mr Han Kok Juan, the director-general of the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), has been appointed the Returning Officer for Singapore's elections. He will assume the role in Apr 1. Elections Dept announced on Thursday 28/03/24,
taking over from Mr Tan Meng Dui, CEO of Housing and Development Board, who has been the Returning Officer since February 2018.

The Returning Officer is a public officer appointed by the PMi to oversee the impartial and smooth conduct of elections. After the counting of votes, the Returning Officer also announces the results.

Mr Tan last oversaw the Presidential Election in Sept 2023, which saw Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam winning more than 70% of the vote. Singapore's next GE must be called by November 2025.

Elections Dept said earlier this mth about 50,000 public officers are expected to be appointed and trained to manage nomination, polling and counting activities ahead of the next General Election. Some public servants have received notice of their role as election officials.

However, Elections Dept did not respond to questions about average lead time between public servants being notified and an election being called.

PM Lee Hsien Loong announced last year that he would hand over the leadership to Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong before the next General Election, saying that “if all goes well”, he will do so by the People's Action Party's 70th birthday on Nov 21, 2024.
