Got a few reasons.
First, there's no incentive to make good dramas in Spore since Mediacorp has already resigned itself to the local market, with no intention of marketing it overseas.
Second, management in Mediacorp continues to earn big money despite making lousy shows. So again, it boils down to no incentive.
Third, our govt probably has given up on Mediacorp, so it does not push MC to make any good shows, as long as it continues to sing the govt's narrative.
There's no lack of money since govt will support MC finanically no matter how fark up its shows are.

I think it all boils down to our Talent Pool which is directly proportional to our TFR.
We need peepur in healthcare badly, we need them in IT, banking and finance, biomedical, biochemical, the police force, SAF, RSAF and even to join WP, PSP etc.
It's not as if we have plenty of artistes and even if there's a hidden gem somewhere, he might be working as a doctor or biochemical whatever.

The awards are rigged. A couple of years ago Huang Biren won best actress despite appearing only in one production for the entire year. Acting skills so so only niah.

But it is taxpayers monies ultimately.

Fully agree with you. Most of the storyline are similar to TVB drama shown more than 12 years ago. Pure waste of time to watch unless you are a brainless ah- Soh in a vegetable state. Students and adults have nothing educational to pick up from it.

The only period that mediaco(k drama had ever came close to HK standard, are the dramas they made around the 90s and 2000s period. After 2010s mediaco(k drama standard went straight down the toilet bowl. And after 2020s, it seem even more sinkie aunties and OL are going over to netflix K dramas and stop watching mediaco(k entirely. Moi think nao majority of the mediaco(k audiences that are still left are the PG\MD elderly.
Reasons beside the mediaco(k dramas were inserted with more and more pro-govt propaganda, ish also mainly because the HK writers and directors that they used to attract over from the HK 1997 exodus are either retiring, or had gone back to HK or AT land.
Personally moi had not watched any mediaco(k channels in the last 5 yrs already. The last time moi had watched a mediaco(k show, regardless local one or wat, ish when they still have OKTO channel.
There was a time when the country asked ordinary men to do extraordinary things.
But now, they'll only do it for money.

The producers and interviewers are from HK. The actors and actresses are mostly from Malaysia. The males went for NS while a few local females joined it.
There is not enough budget, so everyone goes to sleep. However, endorsements or advertisements from some companies are still available.
