Are all residents in big cities unfriendly?
#1

I visited New York City on several occasions for both work and my family vacation. It is a fast paced, busy and overcrowded city. People are everywhere much like S'pore. Locals do not generally find it a friendly or pleasant place to live or work in. If you get lost, you are more likely to be robbed than to be helped. A New Yorker I met through work explained that everybody is always in a hurry to get somewhere. There are tourists everywhere much like in London, Paris or S'pore. Locals simply do not have the time to stop and speak to each lost person or they would never make it to work or their appts. NY is not the friendliest city even compared to S'pore where we find it difficult to strike up conversations with other locals. However, there are many tourists and expats who comment on how friendly and helpful S'poreans are. If we make the first move with a smile and offer some words or acts of kindness, we generally receive more positive responses from others (both locals and foreigners).
