The Soviet were the first to go to space. Orbit the earth. Now empire is gone.
USA send people to the moon the society is discintegration with so many homeless people, drug addicts and high crime. So what if they went to the moon or mars or venus. The ordinary people live like shit.
That's why when India send probe to Mars and whole country cheer for 1 day some where asking if the money would not be better spent on improving lives of the people.
Having said all that ...Singapore is spending 300m on founders memorial. To celebrate "glory" of our successful founders. Plse use the money to upgrade our hospitals and polyclinic...A&E still need to what 4hrs
