Syrian civil war, its into 2nd decade, wreaked havoc on lives of millions, leaving trail of destruction extends beyond physical infrastructure to deeply affect the social fabric of the nation. Among those most affected are women and children, who face widespread displacement, violence & systemic marginalisation. However post-conflict period presents a crucial opportunity to rebuild not only the nation’s economy and governance but also its approach to human rights and equity. Fostering equal opportunity and protection for women and children can serve as a cornerstone of Syria’s recovery, paving the way for a more resilient, inclusive society.
“As soon as we found out Syria, the regime was gone & people coming back, we sorted our things” & packed our things into lorry & car, said Kafozi, 74, standing in wreckage of his home in a former rebel bastion near the capital.
