Most don't own cars.
Why should govt suspend fuel duties to benefit the minority who drive when Singapore has a car lite policy?
I am not a big fan of Lawrence wong but those who criticise him over the fuel subsidy are just thinking about themselves.
Some of the govt policies are all wrong. Nowadays young families with children you can see them driving cars with children inside. They ferry their children to school , CCAs swimming lessons etc. Here govt is complaining about the young population not reproducing enough to replace the older generation , taxing them further who will want to raise children if the costs of living and raising kids keep spiralling skywards till kingdom come.
Higher fuel costs add to companies passing the additional costs to their customers. Who bears the brunt of this? Eventually the common people will find it hard to live .
Cars in Singapore are necessities to those who require them. You want to pay close to $100k for a piece of toilet paper to buy a car?
Taxes are already levied on cars even before people buy them. Add to the cost of fuel, road tax and additional whammy of ERP, most people and the poor common folks will not want to own one.
Higher fuel costs now even the taxi companies and PHVs cannot tahan. Result ? Increase in fares charged. Everything is going to hurt the pockets of the common folks.
tomorrow will be a better day
