Yup even in non-cantonese city like Shanghai or Beijing those variety show they will sometimes sing Cantonese song or speak in Cantonese but never heard them sing Hakka or teochew song.

In China the majority of the population speaking Hakka is small, whereas Cantonese have a bigger population in China.  The emperor of China had stated that all dialects speak Mandarin so as to unite China....and the Chinese characters are universal to all Chinese people.........
