I would gladly take the job while others go home, like you.
Why?
I'd always believed that I should never be afraid there is work to do. Rather, I should be afraid that there is no work, and unemployment is widespread, and you desperately want to work, but there just is no work.
Secondly, there is no harm in appearing to be a reliable and dependable employee to your boss. If given that opportunity to prove yourself, why decline? I was not exactly the smartest manager of all the managers of all departments. But I was the one who went beyond the call of duty strictly according to my JD, and did not turn down any chance that came my way to shine.
I became the boss' right-hand man...and by "boss", I do not mean, you are the clerk and the supervisor, another salaried employee, is your boss. Or you are a supervisor and your boss is the manager of the department. Those are NOT bosses.
When I say boss, I mean someone like Bill Gates or Jack Ma.
Why else do you think I could afford to buy a Chopard watch with loose change in my pocket?
