I did a check on Japan. Only 214 derailments since 2000. Do note however that the length of tracks in Japan is only 9-10% compared to USA. But even if we multiply 214 by 10, it is still a lot less than the number of derailments in USA.
I did another check. This time on China which has about half of the length of train tracks in USA. It has only 10 derailments since 2000.
