you can't stop ppl from trying and the emotion is very high between the 2 nations. the fact that the whole population think when they have the numbers the economic result will automatically show is very amusing.  They keep buying the West's rhetoric that India's population is young and the economic trajectory will be same as other populous countries. 
We always believe that English is the biggest advantage of the Indian but they don't seem to be able to put thing into actions and really what they left is rhetoric and more rhetoric. Probably that explain that Indian are good at service industry and performing advisory and consulting but not manufacturing and production but i stand to be corrected.

This will depend on who is telling the "India story"...which itself not a narrative of the Indians themselves.

To those from the native English-speaking World, it is a no-brainer which of the 2 they love cheering for nowadays..Not because a Hindu-majority India is a "democracy" or enjoy an unblemished "human right" track records - we know the West heck care with the systemic discrimination faced by Muslims, X'tians  and ethnic minorities in India...but simply because it is the ONLY country in Asian with the size and proximity the Western  can use in their about turn against the PRC.

So how to get India to "fight" China ? Simple - Divide and Conquer...remember ? This is the exact play-book US is borrowing from their once-mighty cousin British - which succeeded by gradually buying-off individual South Asian tribes, kingdoms and empires ... a 300 years act that unintentionally created "India" today.

The problem with this Game is the Chinese aren't as dumb as the "Indians" to play along.. - That is why I dare say the Indians are far more emotionally vasted against China simply because the AMTK-mentally still influence Indian thinking today
