BATA.  Buy and throw away.  I remember their badminton masters shoes which a lot of schoolboys used to wear in the 1970s.

And I thought it was a Singaporean company.  One day, when I was in Italy, I saw a BATA shop.  I was momentarily filled with pride, even though I was not its boss, presumably a Singapore Chinaman boss, a term we used to call local bosses.
