Based on typical war strategy even from WW2 till now, those small scale are most likely scout parties. Small group to gather ground intel. But now got drones so wonder why still need to send small units in unless they are not scouts but real fighting unit? Hmmm

Drones got range limitation + not as detailed as ground troops.
