WASHINGTON: U.S. called on Sunday (Dec 10) for Beijing to halt its "dangerous and destabilising" actions in the disputed South China Sea, after a Philippine boat and China Coast Guard ship collided near a contested reef.

Both countries traded blame after the incident earlier on Sunday, the latest such confrontation in the contested sea.

ABOARD BRP MELCHORA AQUINO — The civilian mother ship of a convoy to the West Philippine Sea decided to return back to El Nido, Palawan on Sunday afternoon after being followed by a China Coast Guard (CCG) vessel.

Organizers said the M/V Kapitan Felix Oca started to be shadowed by a CCG vessel at 3:40 pm south of Kayumanggi Bank.

No further details were available as of posting.
