Dismayed by Moscow's war, Russian volunteers are joining Ukrainian ranks. The Siberian Battalion is unique in many ways. 

Karabas said he knew drastic, packed his bags and decided to find a way to Ukraine to join the ranks of Kyiv’s troops fighting Russian forces. It took him a year to make it happen. Today, he is part of Siberian Battalion, a unit made up of Russians who have joined Ukrainian military ranks to fight against their homeland, hoping to help oust Russian Putin. He a members hail mostly from ethnic minorities Russia’s far east.

Karabas went to Armenia first. There, he sought out Ukrainian friends and learned the language, which he now speaks fluently, refusing to utter a word in his native Russian. He recounted, like other fighters in the battalion, he spoke to Associated Press on only his military call sign be used. When Russia invasion Ukraine, Feb 24/22 Karabas said he was dismayed how Russians he knew either blindly supported Putin or were indifferent to war, he said sometomes his grief felt so overwhelming he would break down. 

Unlike other volunteer units have Russian nationals — such as Freedom of Russia Legion & Russian Volunteer Corps — the Siberian Battalion is now officially part of regular Ukrainian army, fighters undergo lengthy security checks, sometimes take up to a year, before they are trained and deployed to the front lines east which has seen some most ferocious fighting where Ukrainian and Russian forces are locked in a grinding battle for control.

War on Putin....A division of Russian paratroopers suffered extremely heavy losses while attempting to knock out Ukrainian forces near the village of Krynky on the left bank of the Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast, despite Vladimir Putin's claims of the contrary.
